Watching Angel Reese rewrite history in another jersey was always going to sting for Chicago. The forward once did the same for the Chicago Sky, being the torchbearer of the franchise. When Reese arrived in Chicago during the preseason, the franchise played a dedicated video to honor Reese. But this time around, there was no tribute video during this meeting between the two teams. Reese was locked in, and an unwanted move from a cameraman prompted a clear response.

After her welcome to the huddle, Reese was heading to the court when a cameraman got a little too close for her liking. In a video shared by ClutchPoints on X, she could be seen instructing him to back off by saying, “Sir! Sir! Stop.” Reese has had a few brushes with the camera this season. Earlier, she shot an unimpressed look from the bench, which went viral. This time around, it was more about her competitive spirit, as this incident was followed by a historic performance.

Reese, the double-double machine, dropped 17 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals while shooting 5-12 from the field and 1-2 from the three-point line. She went up against her former teammate Kamilla Cardoso and dominated, out-rebounding the entire Sky starting lineup by herself.

According to ESPN Analytics, it was her 57th double-double, already the most through 75 games in WNBA history. But she also tied Blake Griffin for the second-most double-doubles through a player’s first 75 games in combined NBA and WNBA history. The only player ahead of them is her mentor, Shaquille O’Neal, who recorded 63 double-doubles at the same stage of his career.

Across the NBA and WNBA over the last 40 seasons, O’Neal remains the only player with more double-doubles through 75 games than Reese. The Bayou Barbie now has the fourth-most games with 15+ rebounds in WNBA history. She is also the first player in Atlanta Dream history to record 17+ rebounds in back-to-back games.

“It doesn’t matter unless I get a win. I was able to get a lot of double-doubles my first two years, but it feels good when you get a win,” Reese said in her post-game courtside interview. “I’m really happy to be with the Dream. I’m really excited, and we continue to march on in this Commissioner’s Cup.”

And the win did not come easy. Despite her outstanding performance, they trailed by 4 points early in the fourth quarter. The back-and-forth continued until the Dream went on a 9-0 run to put some daylight between the two teams. A Reese layup and assist iced out the 82-75 win, taking them to an 8-3 record. Despite the loss, the Sky crowd had plenty to celebrate as they welcomed their favorite superstar back into the city.

Angel Reese Receives Plenty Of Love From Chicago Despite Rough Exit

Angel Reese was not happy in Chicago and she had made it clear. While she had committed to return, Reese and the Sky management worked together for a suitable trade in the offseason. Despite the exit, Reese has experienced only love from Chicago Sky fans who did not want her to leave anyway.

When she arrived at the stadium, the forward was met with plenty of cheers from the Wintrust Arena crowd. “A warm welcome back to Chi-Town for Angel Reese ahead of the @AtlantaDream’s matchup with the  @chicagosky! 🙌” The WNBA wrote.

Chance the Rapper sat courtside to watch Reese’s homecoming and even posted a video of her on the court. Reese acknowledged the fans and was spotted taking photographs with many after the game. She still has love for the city of Chicago and the fans even after leaving the franchise.

While the breakup was an undesirable event for the fans, both now head their separate ways. Reese is looking to challenge for the title with the Atlanta Dream. On the other hand, the Sky continue to rebuild and try to return to the top.
