The Atlanta Dream finally got back in the win column on Thursday night. They defeated the Seattle Storm 89-78 to snap a frustrating five-game losing streak. While the victory was significant on its own, Angel Reese led the charge and even set a new benchmark in double-doubles. However, that milestone came at a cost for Reese and the team.

Reese recorded her 64th career double-double, finishing the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The performance saw her surpass Tina Charles for the most double-doubles by any player in their first three WNBA seasons. Unfortunately, according to sports reporter Wilton Jackson, with 1:19 remaining in the fourth quarter, Reese appeared to roll her right ankle while contesting a play.
“Angel Reese appears to have twisted her right ankle. She walks off the court under her own power. Certainly something to keep an eye on,” wrote
Perhaps the most worrying part was the fact that after walking into the locker room, Angel Reese did not return for the final minute of play. Coach Karl Smesko admitted after the game that he hasn’t received any information regarding the severity of the injury.
“I really don’t have any idea,” he said, as written by Jackson on X. “I’m sure she’s getting it evaluated and trying to get it checked out right now. But nobody’s given me like an update of any severity or where we are with that.”
Unfortunately, the injury concern isn’t the only thing to worry about. The league leader in technical fouls, Angel Reese, picked up her seventh technical on Thursday night.
The foul came midway through the second quarter. Reese argued with the referees over a call after she believed they fouled her while driving for the basket. However, the official stood firm on their decision.
While the Dream star will have to pay $1000 for her seventh technical foul, the bigger concern is that she is now just one foul away from a mandatory one-game suspension. She’ll also have to pay $1500 on top of missing a game.
The hope now is that Reese’s injury isn’t severe enough and that she’ll be back in time for the Dream’s next game against the Portland Fire. Considering the Atlanta Dream have finally snapped their losing streak, Reese will have to be careful to avoid that final foul and the resulting suspension.
