Angel Reese has never been shy about calling out the WNBA’s pay disparity, and she’s making it clear that her league salary doesn’t even cover her rent. The Chicago Sky forward, who signed a standard rookie deal worth $73,439, recently revealed that her rent alone costs $8,000 a month—meaning her WNBA earnings wouldn’t even get her through the year. “Hatin’ pays them bills, baby… I hope y’all know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think that pays one of my bills,” Reese admitted. So, when Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 league, offered some of the highest salaries in women’s basketball, Reese didn’t hesitate to sign on.

Reese quickly became one of the top ten players to ink a contract, securing a deal that dwarfs her WNBA paycheck. But no one knew just how determined she was; fast forward to now, and she’s standing at the top, an Unrivaled champion. And with that championship comes some serious perks, including a hefty financial bonus. But how do you spend a big payday? Well, according to Sydney Colson, there’s an easy answer to that!
After Rose BC defied all odds to win the Unrivaled championship, each player on the team secured an additional $50,000 bonus. Though Reese didn’t play in the playoffs due to a wrist injury, she had been a driving force all season, earning Unrivaled Defensive Player of the Year honors. Celebrating the big win, Reese took to social media with a simple message: “50K NEED DATTTTT.” And that’s where Sydney Colson stepped in.

The newly signed Indiana Fever guard, known for her hilarious antics on social media, saw an opportunity and ran with it. Colson jokingly wrote to Reese on X, “Hey angel girl, just wanted to check in and see how ur doing and just let u know I’m here for u if u need anything…esp if u need to get rid of 50k by tomorrow or anything like that…” But Reese wasn’t about to let that slide. She quickly clapped back: “Hey sista. I’m doing well. Just won 50k on a flight. I know you are VERY aware & I’m sorry to break it to you but I’m on a rookie contract & that 50k was a little more than half of my contract so I have to keep that to myself…. sorry 🙁 give me a few years and I gotchu. Be well 💓 🙃.”

Reese made it clear—every dollar of that bonus is staying with her. And if Colson wants a piece? She’s going to have to wait a few years. It’s easy to joke about money, but Angel Reese has earned every bit of her well-deserved Unrivaled payday. Before the season started, ESPN ranked Rose BC dead last in their preseason rankings, writing them off as a team with no chemistry and no real firepower. And for a moment, it seemed like those critics were right.

Rose BC started the season 1-4, struggling to find their rhythm. And then Reese stepped in to flip the script – and how! Leading the league in rebounding with 12.1 boards per game, Reese became a dominant force, helping Rose BC go on an eight-game winning streak. She even made history, becoming the first player in Unrivaled to record a 20-20 game.
“We have a chip on our shoulder right now. They ranked us at the bottom. We were the last team. Nobody believed in us, and we believed in each other in that locker room,” Reese said after a key win, three weeks ago. By the end of the season, Rose BC wasn’t just proving doubters wrong—they were lifting the championship trophy.
Now you get why that $50K bonus is well-earned. Though, this isn’t the first time Reese and Colson have gone at it with some playful trash talk. Just a few weeks ago, when the Chicago Sky hired former Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh as their new head coach, Colson—who played for the Aces—was not happy.
“Excuse me?! We’re grieving, have some 🤬 respect!” Colson wrote in response to Reese’s celebratory “W.” post about the hire. But Reese, always quick with a response, shot back: “Sorry but your time is UP. It’s our turn! I’ll send you some tissue tho sister girl unless you want to come join this side too🤭.” Colson, still not over it, replied: “Lmaoo u just pissed me off so bad with this 😂😒.”
Whether it’s about coaching hires or championship bonuses, one thing is clear—Angel Reese and Sydney Colson always keep things entertaining. But when it comes to her dough? Reese isn’t playing around.
