Just days after making her Hollywood debut, Angel Reese was back in familiar territory—dominating the spotlight and igniting debate. The Chicago Sky rookie didn’t mince words about her expectations for the franchise’s future, declaring, “I’m not settling for the same s— we did this year. We have to get good players… if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.” The blunt admission immediately raised eyebrows, as the thought of Reese leaving Chicago so soon wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card—and it adds yet another layer to one of the league’s most polarizing young stars.

She highlighted the issues everyone knew:
- No clarity in direction
- No good guards in the team, doubts over Sloot’s ability following her ACL injury, and the age.
- She wanted better players on the team
- Wanted Tyler Marsh to coach hard

Now, while she did apologize for her statements, saying, “I don’t think I’m frustrated with the Sky organization. I probably am frustrated at myself right now. I really didn’t intentionally mean to put down my teammates because they’ve been through this with me throughout the whole year…. So I want to apologize to my teammates, which I already have.”—The Sky still went ahead and suspended her for the first half of the September 7 game against the Aces.
Pretty much why so many around the league believe the Sky are the worst-run organization in the W. Chicago has already seen stars like Elena Delle Donne, Sylvia Fowles, Kahleah Copper, and Marina Mabrey walk away because of how things were handled. And now, maybe Angel Reese could be the next big name on that list. According to Tyler DeLuca, the Wings should make a move for Angel Reese:

“Get Paige Bueckers a big, please. Please get her a big, and Paige and Angel both on the same team. Obviously, the motion would be ridiculous from a Dallas business perspective, and wanting to go and do this. If you can’t go and draft Lauren Betts or Azzi Fudd, this to me is a no-brainer to try go and do,” he said on his No Cap Space WBB podcast.
The idea of pairing Reese with Paige Bueckers (who has a $1.5 million net worth) has to be tempting for a franchise that’s only managed one playoff series win since relocating from Tulsa in 2016. The Wings opened the season with Teaira McCowan and NaLyssa Smith, but both were moved during the campaign. In their place, Myisha Hines-Allen, Luisa Geiselsoder, and Li Yueru have stepped up to cover the power forward and center spots. But let’s be real—their level just isn’t close to what Angel Reese brings.

We’re talking about a player who’s putting up 12.6 rebounds per game, and the Wings’ lack of size has been well documented all season. Reese would instantly solve that problem. On top of that, she’d give Bueckers a reliable pick-and-roll partner for years to come. The best part? Both are just 23, which means GM Curt Miller could have two cornerstone stars to build around for the long haul.
Dallas will most likely land a lottery pick given how they’ve performed the last two seasons. And if luck swings their way, they could even end up with the first pick in next year’s draft. In that case, targeting someone like Lauren Betts or Azzi Fudd makes a ton of sense. Betts would instantly address their size issue, while Fudd—who already shares great chemistry with Bueckers—could signal the end of Arike’s chapter in Dallas as she heads into free agency after the season.
But if the Wings miss out on a lottery pick, they could still use their first-rounder as part of a package to trade for Reese, who’s on a team-friendly rookie deal. And with how things are unfolding in Chicago, that scenario doesn’t feel far-fetched at all.
Angel Reese’s miss against the Aces raises fresh eyebrows
On September 7, when Reese was expected to check in for the second half against the Aces, the team suddenly announced she’d be out with a back injury. “Yeah, she reported it to us during pregame. And so, in conjunction with medical staff, Angel and the medical staff, we wanted to be as cautious as possible,” coach Marsh explained after the game. But the same story repeated in the reverse fixture.
Reese went through shootaround, and coach Marsh even said the expectation was for her to play that night. Yet, just moments before tip-off, the organization announced she’d be missing her second straight game since the team announced her suspension. Sure, Reese has dealt with back issues all season, even missing 10 games earlier because of it. But given the timing and how things have played out, it’s hard not to raise an eyebrow.

At the same time, we know how crucial the back is for a big like her, and with nothing left to play for, the organization is probably just making sure she doesn’t push it and risk further damage.
