Was Angel Reese in the wrong for being blunt? If you ask the Sky players and then some, it’s a yes. Fever guard Sophie Cunningham says, disagreements and emotions make their way to the locker room more often than not, and that’s where the conversation is limited to. That’s where the matters get resolved. The Windy City franchise shared the sentiment when they acted against the 23-year-old forward’s admission. But did they just fumble while establishing the standard?

Last week, the Chi Town Barbie chose to let out her frustration regarding the front office’s off-season moves. As hopeful as the trades and acquisitions had looked, playoff hopes had evaporated even before the race began. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me,” she had declared. What followed was a team meeting, a half-game suspension, and a whole lot of debate. Let’s Talk Hoops podcast host, Cassie Chantel, was among those who were thinking ahead– the impact.

“I don’t think that her teammates, or the organization, are understanding how big of a celebrity Angel Reese is and the impact that she has on the market and it’s bigger than basketball. If the Chicago Sky publicly do Angel Reese wrong, it’ll ruin them moving forward for the next few years, it’ll take a lot to come back from that. So they need to fix this,” Coach C said on the podcast

During the 2025 WNBA season, players voted the Chicago Sky as the worst-run organization in the league. If that was bad, this situation with Reese has only made things worse. Rarely does a franchise get an opportunity to draft a generational talent.  Without having a top 5 pick, at that. But the Chicago Sky won the lottery when they got to draft the star forward. Over two years, she has cemented her position on the team as their cornerstone. When the injury bug hit, she took over the playmaking duties, too.

Applauding her versatility, Tyler Marsh admits she is going to “be one of the top players in this league for years to come.” Add to that the brand she has built for herself beyond basketball, and it’s clear why her comments blew out of proportion. The management is aware of the star they have at hand; however, a lack of roster construction and the suspension opened up a rift that needs to be filled quick. Chantel’s opinion is that this might as well be a concern the franchise inflicted upon itself. Not with Reese’s remarks, but with what followed.

“But it wasn’t the right route to take because you’re asking essentially, you’re upset with Angel Reese because you said that her comment should have stayed in house. But yet you allow her teammate to respond to the article that should have stayed in house and you also published a statement that should have stayed in house. So they’re not practicing what they’re preaching,” she added.

Despite HC Marsh’s initial comments about the matter being discussed internally, the Sky seemed to have made a bit of a surprising move with the suspension. There are polarizing views on the matter. While Chantel raises caution, Cunningham is someone who says that a fine is acceptable in such cases. An anonymous league executive, on the other hand, has an even bigger suggestion.

Anonymous WNBA Executive Suggests Angel Reese Ask For a Trade

Ever since the Chicago Sky suspended Angel Reese, rumors of her leaving the team have intensified. Granted, most of these are from a very passionate fanbase, but nonetheless, there was chatter. Chatter which has not been denied or confirmed from any side. Sure, Angel Reese did not officially ask for a trade, but as the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

And now, to further fan these flames, an anonymous WNBA executive has suggested that Angel Reese ask for a trade this coming offseason. They said, “She needs to get the hell out of there. Chicago is probably the worst-run organization in the league. You’re gonna suspend your best player just because she’s putting pressure on you to get better? That was embarrassing to see. I think Chicago will try to trade her this offseason, but if they don’t, she should request a trade.”

If we revisit Angel Reese’s comments during the interview, she clearly stated that she wished to remain in Chicago for her career. However, she needed the organization to make some changes to build a better roster. Yes, loyalty to a franchise is a great virtue to have, but the same goes for the franchise as well.
