The Chicago Sky lost their second consecutive Commissioner’s Cup fixture last night. In a gritty home encounter against the top-seeded Connecticut Sun, the Sky fell short by 8 points despite leading in most of the statistical categories for the night. However, one thing that the franchise can gloat about is the budding chemistry building between their two rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. While Cardoso has had an injury-curtailed start to her pro career, Reese continues to take strides towards bigger and better things.

Both these phenomenal athletes took center stage and troubled the Sun’s defense in every way possible. Cardoso, who is back after a long absence from the court due to her shoulder injury, has now partnered with Reese in 5 games. She reflected on her on-court bond with the 3x All-American forward in the post-game media address.

Cardoso said, “I think we build a great chemistry. It’s just amazing playing with her and seeing her grow. I heard a lot of people saying her game wasn’t going to translate here and she’s doing it. She’s doing a better job and I’m super proud of her.”

Cardoso and Reese both ended their outings by registering a double-digit score next to their names. In addition to this, the duo is now the first pair of rookies who have secured 10+ points and 9+ rebounds in the same game since 2014. Previously, this feat was accomplished by Connecticut Sun’s rookies Chiney Ogwumike and Alyssa Thomas.

Meanwhile, the Chi-Barbie was on fire individually as she delivered her best WNBA performance so far.

Angel Reese ups the ante

The 2024 SEC Player of the Year was at her absolute best against a tough opponent like Connecticut. With her fourth consecutive double-double, the 22-year-old was able to garner 20 points and 10 rebounds next to her name. Moreover, her career-high figures also include an 8-10 night in shooting and a 100% accuracy from the free throw line.

Consequently, Reese is now the first rookie from the 2024 draft class to go past 100 points and 100 rebounds. Further, she also has the most number of double-doubles in this class at the moment.

Clearly, Angel Reese is setting the bar high in her first season as a pro. The kind of influence that she is creating with her game is showing her potential to grow in each game. Also, her on-court camaraderie with Kamilla Cardoso is working wonders for the franchise. Fans will obviously be expecting her to take it to a higher level.
