It feels good to see the underdogs pushing it till the last. At least both the semis have been that way so far, with Mercury and Fever pushing. Again, Fever has taken it to Game 5 despite all the odds against them. The style was similar, try to hold A’ja Wilson hostage. But tonight the Aces lost despite A’ja’s 58.3% shooting! Naturally, Aliyah Boston, who had a superb night for the Fever with 14 rebounds and was primarily tasked with being around Wilson, was asked about her game plan. As usual, the response struck a chord.

To give context, Wilson was 6-10 for 12 points until halftime. She started the first quarter hot but has somewhat cooled down in the second quarter. When asked about the adjustments she made in her halftime interview. As teams were heading to the locker room, WNBA reporter Holly Rowe asked Aliyah Boston, “A’ja Wilson comes out, she’s more efficient in the first quarter, but you’ve adapted in the second and started to limit her. How did you do that?”

Aliyah Boston had a simple two-word message: “Hey, Holly, we’re professionals.” In the midst of Game 4, Aliyah Boston was trying to make sure that she could replicate her Game 1 performance. To a great extent, she did, but as humble as Boston can get, she said, “People are going to score the basketball. So, for me, like I said, just make sure she feels my presence. And if she hits a tough two, she hits a tough two.”

Well, unlike the rest of the games in the series, Game 4 was a proper battle between the two former South Carolina players. Until now, it was Kelsey Mitchell who was shouldering most of the scoring burden for the Indiana Fever. However, in Game 4, Aliyah Boston came in clutch and led the Indiana Fever on both ends of the floor. In some moments of the game, it almost felt like the two were playing 1-on-1. While A’ja Wilson did end with her 7th career 30+ point playoff game, Aliyah Boston wasn’t far behind.

Wilson was 31 points on 14-24 shooting, whereas Boston hit a 24-point performance, one short of Kelsey Mitchell’s 25 points. As the Indiana Fever flipped the script to take things to Game 5, we are set to witness one more epic matchup between the two. While Aliyah Boston was indeed the biggest contributor, Indiana’s biggest takeaway from the day was team effort. Kelsey Mitchell scored 9-20 shooting, whereas Odyssey Sims also came back strongly after a poor game 3 with 18 points, making the difference. While Lexie Hull did have a poor shooting night, her tenacity on defense was invaluable (4 steals and 1 block).

Aliyah Boston has a record-breaking night as the Indiana Fever force a Game 5

As the Indiana Fever prepared to face an elimination game against the Las Vegas Aces, there were some concerns about the 2023 Rookie of the Year, Aliyah Boston. Even though she had a career-best year in the 2025 season, in the playoffs, she had remained fairly quiet. The prevailing opinions among the WNBA analysts were that for the Indiana Fever to have any chance of forcing a Game 5, Aliyah needed to score more.

Not only did Boston score more, but she also ended the night breaking two records. On her way to a double-double night, she became only the second player in Indiana Fever history to register a stat-line of 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 5+ assists. The only other player to have achieved this feat was Indiana legend Tamika Catchings, who did it twice and was also present in the game. But that’s not all.

With her 18th point in the game, Aliyah Boston also recorded her playoff career-high score. Her previous best was 17 points in her first playoff game ever against the Connecticut Sun. Well, it was a night for records. A’ja Wilson passed Angel McCoughtry for the 3rd most 30+ points in Playoffs in WNBA history. She is behind Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi now!

While all these records are surely great, the best thing to happen for Aliyah Boston and her Indiana Fever teammates is that she is finally able to break the shackles. Now with the all-important win-or-go-home game set to be played in Vegas, the fans will hope that Aliyah can match the level of performance she set tonight and lead the Indiana Fever to its first WNBA Finals since 2015. The road ahead is hard, but can Indiana pull it off?
