Apparently, over 70 players of the WNBA will officially become free agents, and that means the league would obviously look very different from what it is used to. With free agency now open, there will be a mad scramble to secure players without teams.

Rosters can now be built almost overnight, signing stars who were previously locked in. The athletes, too, can now choose a franchise that aligns with their perspective and can do the best with their talents.
Speaking of the 70 free agents, there is also Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson, who has found herself without a team, and many more. So let’s hear what the fans make of this calamity that has unfolded in front of us.

Fans React Frantically To Free Agency Transfers
The fans, too, made their choices loud and clear as to what they want to see now that a major change is about to hit women’s basketball. As players look to change teams, the fans want to see their favorites join up with their chosen clubs.
“A’ja to Fever,” said a fan who is clearly more than happy to see a possible Caitlin Clark and A’ja Wilson team up.

Well, it is no surprise that fans would want to see A’ja Wilson and CC link up. The duo can create huge problems if they combine with their individual frontcourt and guard play, respectively. Wilson brings in championship-winning experience that the Fever and Clark can greatly benefit from, and one that could reshape the balance of power.

“The chaos of the next month will be generational,” said another fan who totally understands the situation that awaits us.
Never before has the WNBA encountered such a huge problem where you have so many players looking for new employers that fit their bill.

“Let the chaos begin!” said another, completely in sync with the other comments.
The free agency period consists of a few different portions, all of which are projected to take place in a 12-day window, which would complicate schedules. Last offseason, that window stretched 22 days, from Jan. 11 to Feb. 1, with plenty of time for free agents to sign into February, but this year things are different. The sheer salary increase will make for an interesting watch as front offices juggle the numbers.

The salary cap will rise from $1.5M to $7M, per ESPN, a 466% jump. Supermax contracts are up 561% to $1.4M, from around $250K. Minimum salaries are above $300,000, with the average salary around $600,000. These are numbers in the range of those reported over the past couple of months, giving teams at least an idea of what their offers will be once the time comes. There is a lot to be accounted for.
But what about Caitlin Clark? Will she also make a move to another club with so many changes happening? However, one fan feels a move is unlikely.
“A note to the folks who have mentioned CC changing teams… am I correct in assuming that the rookie restrictions still hold (team can trade, but player can’t leave on their own for at least 3 years)?” said a fan on the CC situation.
The commenter is indeed correct, as Caitlin cannot move teams on her own unless her team trades her. And that is out of the question right now because her deal runs until 2027, and no franchise would make the error of losing the undisputed face of the WNBA in such a manner.
So moving forward, right up until the WNBA officially starts, expect significant player movement as rosters realign before the season begins. Free agency might bring the chaos, no doubt, but with it comes great opportunity as well, as teams have a lot more options to choose from. So brace yourself for a revamped WNBA 2026 season and see which teams your favorite stars sign up for.
Do they stick with the old or go for something new? Anything is possible now, and that is what makes it even more exhilarating.
