After early hiccups in the season, the Las Vegas Aces are finally getting into the groove. And, as in years past, it’s driven by A’ja Wilson. The defending champions clinched their third straight win of the season against the Connecticut Sun on Friday. But it was Wilson who stole the headlines after a performance that saw the records change, and even helped her to share a major achievement with her boyfriend, Bam Adebayo.

In the Aces’ 101-94 win at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Wilson contributed with 45 points. It’s the season-high in the league so far this year. And subsequently, it draws a parallel to his boyfriend, Adebayo, who holds the record for the most points in an NBA game in the 2025-26 season with 83.
It sort of fostered a legacy of the basketball couple, who have been driving their respective leagues for many years now. A trustworthy basketball Instagram page confirmed this rare achievement with a fitting caption. “A’ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo might be one of the greatest basketball couples ever,” it read.
Bam Adebayo’s record came back in March in a 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards, during which he also set the franchise record for most points in a single quarter with 31 points. And subsequently, it puts him just behind Wilt Chamberlain (100 points) for the most points in a game, overtaking Kobe Bryant (81).
But A’ja Wilson’s performance isn’t far as well in that regard. For instance, 9 WNBA players have scored 45+ points. But Wilson’s 45 points made her the only WNBA player to have multiple 45+ point performances in a career. The Las Vegas Aces touched the feat for the first time back in 2023 during an Atlanta Dream game, where she scored her career-high 53 points.
With this performance, Wilson also carried most of the offensive load for her team against the Connecticut Sun. She scored just over 40% of the team’s total points, and the reigning MVP was quite content with this performance.
“I feel great,” Wilson said. “When you’re able to find shots within our system and just let the flow of the game take over, that’s big for me. I’m going to be efficient. It’s beautiful to rack up all these points and ‘Oh my gosh,’ but are they going to be efficient? That’s key for me. That’s the numbers I look at. If I’m able to do that, I know I’m going to be OK.”
The performance will also give A’ja Wilson a great deal of confidence as an individual. In her last game, Wilson’s minutes were cut short to just 21. She faced major foul trouble in the game, concluding the night with 4 personal fouls. In her most recent game, Wilson was cleaner and more aware in her approach, adding just two fouls to her tally.
The Aces’ cornerstone was a deadeye shooter. Wilson went 15 of 18 from the field and 13 of 13 from the free-throw line. She rarely made a misstep in the game and eased the pressure on her teammates. With Wilson dominating the scoring, Chelsea Gray delved into her playmaking role, recording a team-high 10 assists.
Chennedy Carter (18) and Jackie Young (13) also scored in double figures as the Aces capped off a night that will mostly be remembered for A’ja Wilson’s scoring spree.
A’ja Wilson’s Historic Night Gets Even More Special With Becky Hammon’s Ultimate Praise
The enormity of A’ja Wilson’s performance wasn’t just restricted to her points. Because the game’s context matters as well. During the third quarter of the game, the Sun were staging a comeback. They had stitched together an 11-0 run and subsequently had bridged down the gap to two points.

But Wilson stepped in during the sequence. Last season’s MVP nailed down a three-pointer to halt the Connecticut Sun, and immediately in the next sequence, Wilson also made the play for another three-pointer.
This flipped the pressure immediately back on the Sun, and the Aces managed to protect their lead going into the fourth quarter. These are the minute moments in the game that teams need to win, and Wilson did exactly that, eventually earning praise from head coach Becky Hammon.
“She was unbelievable,” Hammon said in the press conference. “I thought she got a lot of early touches to get her going, and then we were just kind of riding her from there.”
Hammon didn’t just stop there, as she continued praising Wilson for her shooting and momentum in the game. “You always want the best player on the planet to shoot more,” she added. “You spend a little time out in training camp with bumps and bruises, and I think now she’s just trying to get her rhythm back and get her legs underneath her. This game, she clearly did.”
With Wilson getting back to her momentum, the Aces are looking quite daunting at this point in the season. They aren’t just scoring 90+ points with ease. They are also consistently limiting them to the 70s, with players like Wilson and Chennedy Carter locking down opposing teams.
After this successful three-game winning streak away, A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces will move to Atlanta. They will square off against the Dream on May 17 before moving back home to host the LA Sparks.
