The Aces’ front office passed on adding help around A’ja Wilson, and here the star forward is making another MVP campaign out of the opportunity. “I’ve seen them play at a really elite level,” Becky Hammon had reasoned. But as the defense tumbled and the offense failed to meet pre-season expectations, the 29-year-old solely remained synonymous with the HC’s claim. It hasn’t been a championship run for the franchise, but Wilson sure is on track to etch history.

On Sunday night, A’ja Wilson torched the court for a 32-point and 20-rebound performance, becoming the first player in league history to record a 30-20 double-double. “It’s just A’ja being A’ja,” her coach echoed. That evening brought the Aces’ icon’s season tally to 621 points and 268 rebounds in just 28 games, meaning, team-high averages of 22.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 2.1 blocks. That campaign hasn’t gone unnoticed.

About a day after the historic feat, A’ja Wilson has added yet another milestone in her journey, this time alongside one of her dearest friends.

In an official X post, the WNBA announced Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson as the Western Conference Player of the Week for Week 10 of the 2025 season. Wilson dominated with averages of 29.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. She shared the spotlight was her close friend, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray, who claimed Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors after averaging 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists during the same stretch.

This marks the 3x MVP’s third Player of the Week honor this season, having previously earned on June 3 and July 1. And through her career, it was 25th, surpassing Elena Delle Donne (24). All this recognition is a sweet cherry on top for a forward who feels blessed enough to get to play a sport she loves. “I love what I do. I love what I do. I love it so much, so anytime that I can come out and just play basketball the way that I love it, and the team, and we’re all getting involved – I’m happy with that,” she said, following the win on Sunday.

But for this one in particular, Wilson would have grinned wide. The duo goes all the way back to South Carolina, where they won the 2017 NCAA championship together. From adorning the Gamecocks jersey to leading their conferences, the two stars have shared more than daily lunches on the journey. “Honestly, Lish [Allisha Gray] is my big sister that I’ve looked up to our whole friendship,” A’ja says.

This week couldn’t have gone any better for the 2x champion. More so, as her claims don’t remain mere words anymore.

Are Aces on the path A’ja Wilson envisioned?

Becky Hammon and Co. may have come in starving this season, but the translation was hardly immediate. The promising stretches have nosedived even before they could establish a solid streak. But when eyebrows were raised after the Aces made no moves in the trade period, Wilson remained confident. “We’re not going to be satisfied because we’re just winning a couple games. We’ve got to start stacking wins and playing the right way,” she said after the win against Golden State earlier this month.

The Aces are on a 4-game win streak currently — their longest of the season — after defeating Connecticut 94-86. When the game looked to be stirring the other way, with a 12-point lead on Sun’s side, Jackie Young and Jewel Loyd helped bring it right back. NaLyssa Smith, on the other end, helped grab 5 rebounds. With that, the Aces are now 18-14, 6th in the standings. Moreover, the power rankings had them up 5th from 8th last week. That’s a win for hopeful Aces.

“We’re in a good spot,” the coach had said. “We should be feeling pretty confident again.” Well, there’s no other way. With the Indiana Fever losing two of their point guards and dropping a game against Dallas, the Aces look ready to take over their spot. But a real challenge awaits them in the form of New York Liberty on Wednesday.
