The Connecticut Sun continued to roll Saturday night as DeWanna Bonner’s 19 points secured an important road win in Chicago. However, she had to get the job done without her fiance, Alyssa Thomas. The 4x WNBA All-Star had to leave the court following her flagrant foul on the Sky rookie Angel Reese in the third quarter resulting in an ejection. Furthermore, Bonner too had to come across an on-court altercation with the former LSU standout.

The game was at a critical point in the penultimate quarter, with the visitors holding a 6-point lead. As Elizabeth Williams attempted a free-throw line jumper, Bonner and Reese were battling it out for a rebound under the rim. That’s when things escalated and the game was stopped following Bonner going down to the floor, holding her face.

The replays showed that in an attempt to get a rebound in case Williams’ effort failed, Reese poked the 36-year-old in the eye. Seeing Bonner on the floor, head coach Stephanie White wasted no time to go check on her. Moreover, it also resulted in a Ref-initiated review. Due to the inconclusive nature of the video, no further calls were made by the officials.

Following this, the 2× WNBA champion decided to respond in her own way. Just 15 seconds after the play resumed, she buried a 25-foot three-point jumper through an assist from Tyasha Harris. This stretched the lead to 7 points which they managed to hold on to till the end. Eventually, they ended up winning the contest 86-82.

Despite the loss, the Chicago No.5 was able to put together yet another impressive display.

Angel Reese displays toughness

On back-to-back occasions, the 7th overall WNBA draft pick ended up being the second-best performer in the Chicago Sky locker room. As it turns out, Teresa Weatherspoon entrusted Angel Reese with 33 minutes on the floor which garnered her 13 points along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

In addition to this, she was 4 of 9 while shooting from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Marina Mabrey was the top scorer for Chicago with her 23 points while Evans joined Reese with her 13 points.

Not the evening that Angel Reese and Co. were hoping for. Nonetheless, fans will hope the team can put behind this loss and turn the tides in their favor again when they take on Seattle next. Currently, at the fourth position, a win will ensure an upward trajectory for them in the standings.
