ESPN’s Bomani Jones nailed it when he called Caitlin Clark a “Tiger Woods-like phenomenon”. He was pointing out her game-changing influence on women’s basketball and the seismic impact on sports culture as a whole. Flau’jae Johnson may have strengthened the case when she name-dropped the Fever icon in one of her songs. “Double-C on my jacket like Caitlin Clark,” she rapped, sparking the cultural crossover. However, for the LSU star, the Tiger Woods comparison was directed elsewhere.

We have seen the endless Clark-Wood comparisons. “If you talk about league-changing athletes in America – Tiger (Woods) in golf, Michael Jordan in basketball, Caitlin Clark,” radio personality Colin Cowherd made known just days ago. For a cherry on top, the 2024 ROTY is a fairly passionate golfer herself, participating in the pro-am at The Annika last November. In fact, the sport has been her go-to way to relax when basketball is not in season.

But when Johnson moved from the hardwood to pick up the golf club, the two things Clark is closely associated with — golf and Woods — did not remind her of the Fever icon. Not when she had her beau right in front of her.

After a music video cameo, several courtside appearances, and social media shoutouts, Flau’jae Johnson and Chris Hilton Jr. took their time off together on an evening golfing date. The Big 4 even gave us a sneak peek of their experience through a few slides on her Instagram stories.

The first one had Hilton Jr. locked in at the golf simulator, all business. In the next clip, he was taking a full, smooth swing. Then Johnson popped into another frame, being her usual fun self. She made a shot while rocking fuzzy slippers. And that’s when she had dropped the caption: “Tiger Woods over here” on her first story.

Flau’jae Johnson may have stirred comparisons to the wide receiver this once, but she is clear about her respect for Caitlin Clark. And it’s no different from the other side.

Caitlin Clark x Flau’jae Johnson?

Caitlin Clark and Flau’jae Johnson may have been rivals on the court, but off it, their bond is built on genuine admiration and a surprise musical crossover. However, when Clark was asked about the possibility of a music collab with Flau’jae Johnson’s new track, she couldn’t help but get real. She said, “No. I would never. I would leave that to her,” she told USA Today’s Meghan Hall.

She further added, “She’s incredible, but it was awesome. Her music is really great. She’s so talented, and I’ve honestly been a really big fan of hers since we played them at LSU.” Flau’jae Johnson’s shout-out had earned an instant reaction from Clark. She responded to the teaser that Johnson posted on her Instagram Story with a single-word verdict “Elite,” that was punctuated with fire emojis.

And it turned out, that Clark saw this collab coming. “She told me a while back, actually, that she was putting me in a song. So I’ve kind of been waiting for it,” she revealed. Though flattered, the Fever star made it clear she’s sticking to basketball. She even noted that her friends and family blew up her phone when the track dropped. What started as a fiery NCAA rivalry has evolved into something cooler. It’s now about two stars lifting each other up while proving that competition and genuine appreciation can coexist.
