Caitlin Clark had the most amusing reaction to her injury. Yes, that’s right, but it was a close call. In the first quarter of the latest matchup against the Atlanta Dream, the rookie had fans on the edge as she appeared to roll her ankle. After walking on her own to the Fever bench and making a comeback in the second quarter, Clark later eased the tension with a hilarious joke at her own expense.

Trolling herself, Caitlin Clark said, “I look really soft. It wasn’t that bad of a turn but it hurt. So sometimes you just need a second… Give yourself a second. If you ever sprained your ankle, it just kind of stings for a little bit,” which clearly impressed Kelsey Mitchell, who giggled at her teammate’s response.

She further added, “So, I was good. They’re like, ‘Do you want to go to the back?’ I’m like, ‘No, please, just tape right here, and let’s go, keep going. Get on with the game.’ But I’ve done it a few times, so it is what it is. You’re not a real basketball player if you haven’t sprained your ankle as much. That’s when you know.”

The 2x John R. Wooden Award winner felt the pressure while struggling on defense in the first quarter. At one point, when she tried to move past a defender, Clark twisted her ankle and fell, screaming in pain. Although the training staff rushed to assist her, she was able to walk off on her own. It was a good sign that the injury wasn’t serious.

Naturally, the rookie didn’t head to the locker room and later returned in the second quarter, racking up 19 points. It was during the post-game conference that Clark clarified that the injury wasn’t serious. Clark shot 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, while her teammate Aaliyah Boston recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Stealing the show was Mitchell, who scored 29 points leading the Fever to win 84-79 over the Atlanta Hawks.

Netizens were relieved to see Clark safe and her humorous reaction to her own injury earned a few laughs from the media, considering her previous record.

Fans previously called out Caitlin Clark for flopping

Many fans believed that Caitlin Clark flopped a few times to draw a foul. She had been called out for this in her previous college games as well. During the Fever’s first-ever matchup against the Chicago Sky, these concerns escalated.

As Clark was being boxed out by her rival Angel Reese, it appeared that the Fever rookie was knocked down. However, fans suspected that she might have flopped again. However, the Fever rookie has shown consistent improvements in her game.

The game against Dream was held at the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks arena, which saw the attendance exceed its arena’s capacity with 17,608 people in the crowd in the most Clark fashion. This was a first for the Atlanta Dream and for the Georgia town, marking an overwhelmingly large turnout. After this win, the seventh-seeded Fever will face the Connecticut Sun next.
