Even as the son of Crystal Dunn, there seem to be no privileges—at least, that’s what three-year-old Marcel would say. The toddler recently endured a brutal 1v1 showdown with his star mom that left him in tears—and soccer fans around the world thoroughly amused.

It all comes after the USWNT star recently shared a video of herself kicking a soft balloon soccer ball in her home in Paris with her adorable son on Instagram. It’s all very cute until it takes a drastic turn. Hilariously, for context, Dunn has even added captions to describe each moment.

Stage one begins where “everyone starts off having fun 😃.” Marcel—whom the Paris Saint-Germain veteran shares with her husband, Pierre Soubrier, whom she married in 2018—can be seen kicking the ball with force. But soon, the toddler moves into phase two: the trash talk. Dunn humorously captioned it, “Then Marcel starts talking smack😒.”

That only forced the former NWSL star to remind his little one who her mom is, with the defender mentioning, “Then I turn the heat🔥up a bit😏.” And just as everyone expected, Marcel couldn’t take it. “He gets mad at me😞,” the caption read as the video showed the three-year-old crying while lying on the floor.

That only made Dunn realize that she’ll let her son win: “I have to let up next time🤦🏾‍♀️…it’s the same cycle of events. LOL.” Either way, it is indeed quite a hilarious yet heartwarming moment between Crystal Dunn and her son Marcel. Back in April, in the opening doubleheader clash between USWNT and Brazil, Marcel came in support of her mom, even donning the name Dunn on the back of his USA shirt. The 31-year-old even shared the moment on her socials, writing, “Marcel is all the motivation I need.” And from the recent video, it seems like she is using that motivation to teach her son the ropes of the game, too, while also making sure he also learns not to get ahead of himself.

One fan was spot on when they wrote, “Soooo darn cute!!! Typical age-appropriate behavior. Lesson- Don’t mess with your momma.” A similar disclaimer came from another fan as well, “Lol life lessons, Marcel! Also, you gotta put some respect on mama’s name cuz she ain’t no ordinary mama.”

Well, it’s not like Marcel’s mom is ahead of her little one in all aspects. For context, while Dunn had her French husband Pierre Soubrier to help her navigate the language barrier when she moved to PSG. However, she couldn’t come to terms with the fact that her toddler son picked up on the language faster than she did.

“I find that so frustrating because I should be better at French than what I am. But he has his little flash cards that I take sometimes, and I study them. He already knows what the words are, so it’s embarrassing. He’s going to teach me, basically, very soon!” once remarked Dunn to CNN. So, where does that leave both mom and son? 1-1 perhaps!
