Richardson got off to a conservative start and never fully recovered, as she missed out on a place in the semi-finals. This cost her a spot in America’s 100m sprint team for the world championships.

Sha?Carri Richardson refused to comment on her run

At the 2020 US Olympic Trials,?Sha?Carri Richardson?dominated, posting a 100-meter time of 10.86 seconds. Of course, she quickly became America’s favorite and a rising sprinting sensation. Unfortunately, she tested positive for THC metabolites on a drug test that threw away her Olympic contention for Tokyo.?

But she proved her proficiency on the track again this season with the 10.85-second performance she produced in New York earlier this month, or the second-place finish behind two-time Olympic 100m champion Elaine Thompson-Herah in May. No wonder she was the favorite for the 100m title at the US Championships.

But her fifth-place finish was worlds away from the fans? expectations and the 22-year-old was in no mood to chat post-race, jogging swiftly past gathered reporters. Instead, Aleia Hobbs came out?victorious?with a 10.88-second finish.

Richardson still could make it to the world championships

Even if we won?t be seeing Sha?Carri Richardson on the women?s 100m track at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July, she isn?t completely off the roster. Richardson will still feature in the women?s 200m semi-finals on Sunday. Here, she can still win a spot on the world stage.

The sprinting sensation ran in the first round of the event and finished second clocking?22.69 seconds, right after Gabby Thomas, who finished in 22.59 seconds. Richardson will face Thomas again in the second heat of the semi-finals scheduled for Sunday.

It will be Richardson?s last chance at qualifying for Oregon, her performance at the 100m already taking hits from athletics fans. If she can perform anywhere near her personal best of 22 seconds or the 22.38 seconds, she posted earlier this month, then she has a good chance of securing that spot.

It is time for Richardson to shake off that loss and get in gear for the upcoming races. Will she be able to redeem herself?
