Along similar lines, Noah Lyles continued to strike his magic in the Diamond League. However, following his triumph on Swiss tracks, the athlete announced to end his 2023 sprinting spree.

Noah Lyles announces early season retirement

American sprinting icon, Noah Lyles has decided to end the 2023 season. On Saturday, Track Spice posted the update on Twitter with a picture of Lyles. According to the tweet, “Triple World Champion Noah Lyles ends his season after Zurich. He won’t be defending his title in the Diamond League Final in Eugene this month.

This news comes after Noah Lyles confessed to being tired after participating in back-to-back events. Amid his win in the 200-meter race in Zurich, the sprinter told the media, “I’m not going to lie. I’m pretty tired. It was a short turnaround, after less than a week of running.”

Interestingly, after this season, Noah Lyles, despite managing to become the fastest man in both 100m and 200m, could not surpass Usain Bolt’s 200m record. After breaking the most 200-meter records completed under 20 seconds in the London Diamond League, Lyles’ fandom expected the athlete to break Bolt’s 19.19-second record in Eugene.

Noah Lyles not being able to break Usain Bolt’s record

In July 2023, weeks before becoming a two-time world champion, Noah Lyles achieved the impossible. The 26-year-old Lyles, after seven years of chasing Usain Bolt’s record, was finally able to emerge as a new 200-meter world record holder. By completing his 35th race in under 20 seconds in the London Diamond League, Lyles broke the record for most 200-meter races in under 20 seconds, previously held by Bolt.

Amid this staunch performance, the athlete made a bold promise to break the 19.19-second record set by Bolt at the 2009 World Championships. However, despite the best efforts of Lyles, the US sprinter could not live up to his promise by finishing the 200m World Championship final race in 19.51 seconds.

Nonetheless, Noah Lyles was able to clinch the gold at the 200-meter event. And despite not being able to break Bolt’s record, Lyles still managed to etch his name in history by bringing three gold medals home. Now the fans hope for the athlete to break the record in the upcoming 2024 Olympics.
