Perhaps the only thing that can ever challenge greatness is time. With time, the glory of one athlete becomes a landmark for the other. In the cycle of life, no achievement, no record is permanent. However, records set by the swimming legend Michael Phelps are not the easiest ones to be plunged. Though time and again a new face comes and delivers to near perfection. The US swimming trial for the world championship is turning out to be a huge success. Young players are breaking records and promising incredible future prospects for American swimming.
Michael Phelps is still the fastest 15-year-old swimmer in the US
In the team trials for the world championship, 15-year-old Thomas Heilman scored a record timing in the 200m butterfly. With a staggering time of 1:58.01, the kid became the second-fastest US swimmer in his age group. Even after more than two decades, the swimming legend Michael Phelps still holds the record for the fastest 15-year-old swimmer in the country.
Even though Heilman missed the record by a mere 2 seconds, it’s still a great achievement. Previously in the 13-14 age category also he was second beside Michael Phelps with 1:59.87 on the clock.
Seems like growing the champ is going to present a serious threat to Phelps’ records.
Caeleb Dressel qualifies for the world championships
In the US swimming trials, another sensational performance by the Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel guaranteed his place in the US world championship team. With 47.79 s on the clock, Caeleb scored the fastest 100m time this year. It’s great to watch that after a couple of weeks of struggle in NCAA events, the champion is finally back on track before the Worlds.
