The deadliest shark attack in history
In July 1945, the USS Indianapolis, a heavy cruiser, was on a top-secret mission to deliver components of the atomic bomb. Four days after successfully delivering their cargo, a Japanese submarine torpedoed it. The cruiser was also carrying 1,200 American citizens when it went down in under 12 minutes. According to Mirror, out of the 1200 crew members, 300 sank with the ship. The remaining 900 were stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with no recourse to saving their lives. Just as these daredevil nationalists were calling courage into their hearts, a deadly shark attack began.

Sharks rely on their keen sense of smell and ability to detect even the faintest traces of blood in the water to hone in on their prey. Thereafter, they go for a covert attack, making sure the victim has no chance of escaping. The same thing happened with the soldiers; only the blood-curdling moment stretched out over three and a half days for these unfortunate souls.

A shiver of aggressive Whitetip and tiger sharks reacted to the loud explosion from the sinking cruiser and the trashing movement of 900 helpless sailors in the water. First, these beasts tore off the flesh from the corpses of the deceased sailor. Not long after, they turned their monstrous eyes in the direction of the living sailors.
