It was an eventful day at the TYR Pro Swim Series San Antonio meet on Friday. While all eyes were on Katie Ledecky and Caeleb Dressel before April’s Phillips 66 International Team Trials, the results were different for both of them. However, it was an amazing day for American swimming as the competition was tougher than ever.

Amidst the swimming controversy stirred up by transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, this event is like a much-needed breather for fans as well as swimmers. TYR Pro Swim Series is the most important stepping stone for swimmers aiming at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Katie Ledecky once again on the top

The seven-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Katie Ledecky clinched another victory in the 400-meter freestyle. With 4:03.84 time on the clock, she defeated Leah Smith (4:05.43) and her Olympic teammate Hali Flickinger (4:10.38). After winning in 200-meter freestyle as well, it was the second victory for the Olympic champion.

“I learn from every single race, every single meet, and I think that’s a good accomplishment. It’s something I can take to back to training; just happy with learning as much as I am,” said Katie after her sensational performance.

Caeleb Dressel takes the second place

While it was a good day for Katie, another Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel missed the victory by a feeble margin. In the 50-meter freestyle event at the TYR Pro Swim Series US number two Michael Andrew claimed first place. He finished the race in 21.73 seconds while the Olympic champion Caeleb produced a time of 21.86 seconds.

Now before the 2022 FINA World Championships trials, Caeleb Dressel will have to bring forth his A-game. The reigning Olympic champion is certainly one of the best swimmers out there and team USA has great hope in him.
