In a bid to make it to Paris in August, athletes are pushing themselves to the limits at the ongoing US Olympic Team Trials. Notre Dame’s distance runner Yared Nuguse just punched his own ticket. Yet, after his exhilarating run, his mind seems more occupied with the world’s biggest pop star than with hauling gold on the biggest stage.

An X post by NBC Olympics & Paralympics highlighted the latest achievement of Yared Nuguse, the 2024 World Indoor Championships silver medalist. The post showcases Nuguse’s emphatic run, where he finished second in the men’s 1500m race with a time of 3:30.86, just 0.27 seconds behind Cole Hocker. This finish earned him a spot on Team USA. Now, he might be on the fast track to receiving personal congratulations from Taylor Swift.

As a self-confessed Swiftie, Nuguse was heard extending his congratulations to the Grammy winner for her incredible work in an Instagram post shared by USATF just a day before Monday’s trials. “Shout out to Taylor Swift…maybe I can meet you one day when I win everything ever,” chuckled the 25-year-old.

Nuguse maintained firm control throughout the race, holding a steady lead over Hobbs Kessler and the rest of the field, trailing only Cole Hocker in the final lap. After the race, Nuguse was seen embracing Hocker, his face glowing despite being covered in sweat, perhaps realizing his chances of meeting his favorite singer had just received another boost. With Hocker, Nuguse, and Kessler all qualifying for the quadrennial event, it marks a significant achievement for them.

Now, as we await to see if Yared’s wishes catch Swift’s attention, it’s worth noting that The Tortured Poets Department singer isn’t the only iconic name to come up at the Olympic Trials in Eugene.

Taylor Swift would be in good company in Oregon

Legendary rapper and songwriter Snoop Dogg has been a frequent visitor at this year’s Team Trials. On the second day of the tournament, Snoop was seen in the stands wearing Paris 2024 gear, enthusiastically cheering for Sha’Carri Richardson & Co. Richardson, the reigning women’s world champion, has finally secured her ticket to Paris, potentially burying the disappointment from three years ago when she was denied a place in the national team for the Tokyo Olympics. Having an iconic figure like Snoop must have provided an extra boost to her confidence.

Then, on the following day, the gangsta rap phenomenon was once again spotted sitting beside Keisha Caine, Noah Lyles’ mother. They both enthusiastically cheered for the current men’s world champion. Later, the rapper’s hilarious take on the men’s steeplechase brought about a stomachache for the entire community.

Now, as fans clamor for Snoop to become an official Paris Olympic commentator, let’s see if Nuguse’s individual wish gets fulfilled first. Considering Yared’s dedication to Taylor, evident from his attendance at an Eras Tour show last year, Swift might be swift with her response as well!
