The caption reads, “Dina Asher-Smith  won the women’s 200m at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational, coming through in 22.51s (1.0). It was a narrow win over a very strong Jessika Gbai who really took the challenge to her, clocking a PB of 22.53s. Lanae Tava-Thomas  was 3rd in 22.84s.”

The victory wasn’t easy for the sprinter. Despite facing personal challenges, including the loss of her grandmother and injury setbacks, Asher-Smith demonstrated determination on the track. Days before the event smith adds, “It was a really challenging year for me in 2022 but – and I know this sounds crazy – it was not really physical. It was more as a human being”.

She faced the loss of her grandmother, Sislyn, and battled through injury setbacks during competitions like the World Championships and European Championships. But never gave up.

Post her victory, Asher-Smith expresses a desire for a quicker time, acknowledging areas for improvement. Reflecting on her performance, the legend states, “I’m in really good shape so I was hoping to get a quicker time today. Clearly, I’ve got some stuff that I’ve got to work on so I’m going to go back to Austin and work on them.” As fans watched her stand on the podium, a sense of awe washed over them.
