The 2023 World Champion Josh Kerr started the 2024 season with a bang. Alongside Noah Lyles, Grant Holloway, and many more stars, he set standards high for the Paris Olympics. Josh Kerr raced in the 3000 meters at the Milrose Games to take home the gold but had reportedly decided to skip the World Championships next month in Glasgow.

However, in a surprising move, the 26-year-old has been named in Great Britain’s squad for the 2024 World Athletic Championships. Kerr expressed excitement, and so did the track and field community later.

Josh Kerr to conquer 3000m at World Athletic Championship in Glasgow

In the latest development, Josh Kerr was named to Great Britain’s team for the 3000m marathon. The 1500m World Champion from last year’s Budapest edition has changed his mind and will run against the US champion Yared Nuguse and 3000m steeplechase world record holder Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia. Citius Mag confirmed the news on Twitter and was later approved by Kerr himself.

The NCAA icon took to Instagram to express his excitement ahead of the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. “I’m coming home🇬🇧”, the Scottish runner captioned an Instagram photo. He took home the gold at the Milrose Games in men’s two-mile in 8:00.67  to break Mo Farah’s 8:03.40 world record for the indoor two-mile race set in 2015. Having conquered the 1500 meters once, Kerr will look to master the 3000 meters as fans get behind the 26-year-old.

Track and field community excited for World Championships

As Josh Kerr expressed his excitement for his 3000m race at the 2024 World Athletic Championships, the track and field community slid into the comment section to laud his move. “Brilliant! Can’t wait to see it!! Good Luck“, a fan wrote under the post. Kerr is seen as an athlete with a lot of potential and is backed to win the 2nd world title in a row. “2/2 WC“, a fan commented on his expectations.

Another sprinting enthusiast wanted Kerr to break the Lamecha Girma’s world record. “Get Yared Nuguse and world record…“, he wrote. However, one fan had a serious concern. “Awesome – glad it fits in your super busy schedule. Would have been a shame if you couldn’t have made it“, he expressed.
