The 2024 Doha World Aquatics Championships have been refreshing for swimming enthusiasts ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. With fast splashes and breathtaking finishes, the world has witnessed everything, and this time the heroics come from the Netherlands as the U.S.A. faces another setback.

Kate Douglass hasn’t been up to her best after winning the gold medal in the 200m individual medley. The 22-year-old finished off the podium yesterday, and as she splashed in the women’s 100m freestyle, Douglass again fell short.

Kate Douglass faced another disappointment at the Doha World Aquatics Championships 2024 as she finished off the podium in women’s 100m freestyle. Netherlands’ Marrit Steenbergen took home the gold in sensational 52.26s while Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong settled with silver at 52.26. The 3rd place on the podium was sealed by Shayna Jack of Australia as America’s favorite Douglass finished in 4th in 53.02 seconds.

The 22-year-old was one of the favorites leading up to the event and will be highly disappointed. As she gears up for the women’s 200m breaststroke now, the recent swim marked her 2nd back-to-back off-the-podium finish. Yesterday on the day fifth of the World Championships, Douglass swam in the 100-meter medley in an attempt to secure the 2nd gold in the event.

However, she finished a disappointing 5th as Dutch swimmer Marrit Steenbergen raced to Nederlands’ first gold of the season. The NCAA icon swam in 53.31 while the gold medalist finished in 52.53 seconds. There’s a similarity between yesterday’s and today’s losing margins but it was triple when she won on day two.

Douglass secured victory in the 200m individual medley on day two with a winning margin of more than 1.5 seconds. The 22-year-old swam the 200-meter distance quickly in 2:07:05 while the silver medal-winning Sydney Pickrem touched the finish line in 2:08:56. While she hasn’t been able to dominate the Doha Worlds yet the way she does or did at TYR Pro Series, Douglass still has a few more events left to leave on a good note. Can she do it?
