Similarly, notable names like Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan once collaborated to present their own cartoon show, ProStars around 1991, which also included baseball star, Bo Jackson.

Furthermore, the animated stars fought silly crimes on a Saturday morning, targeting children as their main audience. However, the show was aired for only a short span as it turned into a huge flop.

The star-studded collaboration

As per an article by Vice Sports, it was recommended for celebrities during the 1990s to associate with cartoon shows in order to stay relevant in the mainstream media. Similarly, NBA prodigy, Michael Jordan and NHL star, Wayne Gretzky pulled out ProStars along with Bo Jackson. Their characters simply portrayed a generic childish concept where they fought villains committing crimes.

Unfortunately, the iconic trio’s partnership went downhill, as the show stretched for only 13 episodes and was eventually stopped. “‘It seems so much weirder right now than when I was in the moment back then,” said Brad Kreisberg, the show director. Moreover, he added that post the 70s, it was only common to have animated versions of big celebrities.

Additionally, the characters were pretty cliche. Jordan played the intelligent one, while Bo was the strong and bulky one and Gretzky played the role of a comic. Reportedly, the director wasn’t shocked when his show turned into a bore. “I think the concept was just a little stretched on why these three were together,” Kreisberg said.

In yet another Gretzky-Jordan mishap, the former once prompted a stern reply to Jordan. Both legendary athletes shared a common interest in golf. On one such instance, Charles Oakley revealed, You know Michael talks stuff to guys, Wayne would go for it. He talked back to Mike. He might be the only one guy in the sport. Because most guys just like, ‘Oh my god, Michael!’ But Wayne stood up to him. I liked that.”

Gretzky proved as a tough competitor to the undefeated basketball champion. Both of them are ideal figures within their field of sport.

Evidently, the iconic partnership didn’t turn out as expected. It simply signifies that even though best in their games, they probably aren’t compatible together.
