Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron have known one another since the 80s. The duo first collaborated on the now-iconic The Terminator (1984). In the early 80s, Cameron was the new kid on the block. Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger wasn’t a superstar either, only having acted as the lead of Conan The Barbarian. However, the actor-director duo’s first project made them famous overnight. Since then, Schwarzenegger has worked with Cameron multiple times. So when his old friend’s latest $350 million projects were released, the bodybuilding icon was excited to watch it.

After working with Cameron on three Terminator movies, the Hollywood action star had confidence in his old friend. “There is no way he would spend this much time on a project and not knock it out of the park.” said the former bodybuilding champion. Schwarzenegger’s interest in the film has also sparked rumors of him starring in the upcoming third installment of the Avatar franchise.

The iconic project that made them famous

In 1984, a low-budget sci-fi action film, The Terminator released in theaters. However, within days the movie exploded in popularity. People flocked to the theaters, and The Terminator made over $73 million at the box office. Cameron spent just under $7 million to make the movie. The film, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of the menacing T-800, has become a part of pop culture history.

While pitching the movie, Cameron had no money and had to make compromises. However, the legendary director fought to cast the Austrian in the role of the T-800, as producer Mike Medavoy wanted Cameron to hire O. J. Simpson. The sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, was an even bigger hit than the first movie.
