The double Olympic winner, Griner, was jailed for carrying illegal substances. Jake Shields, who made several comments before, about the 6’9″ athlete, mentioned the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden and 49th vice President Kamala Harris in his tweet.

The Diaz brother teammate wrote, “It’s ridiculous that Brittany Griner is getting 9 years for marijuana but not as ridiculous as the US giving Julian Assange life for reporting things they don’t like.”

Shields also added, “It’s especially ironic that both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris pushed for longer prison sentences for drug use are now fighting for her release.” 

The veteran MMA fighter also made a request to President Joe Biden in a subsequent tweet.

Several UFC personnel condemned the Brittney Griner news

UFC announcer Joe Rogan, MMA coach Eric Nicksick, and fighters like Derek Brunson along with UFC analyst Laura Sanko, shared their initial thought about the situation.

However, coach Nicksick’s comment stands out as he shared an incident of how the UFC shared a 3-page list to make the crew aware of what to carry and what to avoid.
