Neil Young took Rogan’s comments as misinformation. At that time, Spotify provided Joe Rogan with a platform for his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, and it was exclusively available on Spotify. Citing this exclusivity, Young pulled his music out of the music streaming as a protest. Alongside him, Joni Mitchell, Nils Lofgren, and (briefly) Crosby, Stills, & Nash followed his lead.

Two years after the hubbub, Neil Young is again back to the music streaming app, and this move by the legendary folk musician seems to have annoyed him. The “BJJ” goat took his Instagram handle to share a story about his homecoming. He wrote, “When you have no morals- You’re Neil Young.”

The Joe Rogan Experience recently clinched a new deal with Spotify worth a massive $250 million. Along with the hefty valuation, the deal also has a catch. Rogan’s show will now stream on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon. In short, the exclusivity clause has been removed from the new deal, which seems to have induced Young to return to the music streaming app.

Young released a statement in which he wrote, “Spotify, the #1 streamer of low res music in the world — Spotify where you get less quality than we made, will now be home of my music again. My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I had opposed at SPOTIFY.I cannot just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all, so I have returned to Spotify, in sincere hopes that Spotify sound quality will improve and people will be able to hear and feel all the music as we made it.”
