Former two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has not retired, despite experiencing the most devastating knockout loss of his career against Nassourdine Imavov at UFC Saudi Arabia. Facing three consecutive losses in a row has made the fans question ‘The Last Stylebender’s return to the octagon, and now, pieces of advice are flying from all across the MMA community. But amidst all the noise, Yoel Romero cut through with his crucial insight.
Since Israel Adesanya spectacularly avenged his loss against Alex Pereira at UFC 278, the series of outcomes didn’t go in his favor. The last couple of defeats have placed him in a precarious situation where one more loss could become detrimental to his title aspirations.
The Nigerian-born Kiwi could take a punch in his early fights. Who could forget about his intense showdown against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 236 where he was pushed through his limits? But, after the first fight against his arch-nemesis Alex Pereira in the UFC, Adesanya seemed to lose some of his characteristic tenacity. Following the recapture of the middleweight belt, Sean Strickland, DDP, and Nassourdine Imavov cracked his chin severely, and that concerns Adesanya’s former opponent Yoel Romero.

The 47-year-old, during an interview with Submission Radio, said, “Question about Israel. He needed time, he needed rest a little bit, because too much damage (points at his chin). But the problem is the UFC is no give you time. When the UFC call, you need to come, because you have a contract. Now, he need to think about training. Not too hard in the sparring, he need to got to training like therapy, you know, recover for the body. He don’t need it now, too much sparring. That’s my opinion for Israel.”

Yoel Romero rightly mentioned that Israel Adesanya needs some time to heal and recharge before he can fight again. Adesanya cannot take more pressure on him, with hard sparring sessions and grueling weight cuts – which are sometimes considered an even more brutal experience than the actual fights.
Losing to a top contender like Nassourdine Imavov has made it uncertain when ‘The Last Stylebender’ will step inside the octagon and against whom. However, it is highly likely that he will enter into the cage against a fighter similar to his star power. Meanwhile, Adesanya’s dance competitor Yoel Romero is also fighting this weekend.

Ahead of this fight, the ‘Soldier of God’ provided a snippet of his upcoming fight versus Ryan Hylton on the same interview with Submission Radio. He said: “He was fighting in Bellator. I don’t know how much fight he have in Bellator. He is a very tall guy. I think he’s more younger than me, everybody is younger than me. That guy has a longer arm, I think that’s the way he want to use it. He want to use the reach. I’m more explosive, I move very well, I have very well footwork.”
