What comes to your mind when you think of the name Taylor Swift? It’s the mega pop star selling out stadiums for her Eras Tour right? As an MMA fan, you must be wondering, “What connection does Taylor Swift have to MMA”? On one hand, we have the American 14-time Grammy-winning singer, and on the other, we have a 21-year-old man from the UK with the same name, creating waves in the MMA world.

With a record of 3-1-0, the fighter from the UK has become the subject of much discussion, more so for his infamous name. So here is all about Taylor Swift, the young MMA fighter who shares his name with the mega pop star.

Taylor Swift’s MMA record and other details

Born on 27th May 2003 in the United Kingdom, Swift has a record of 3-1-0 and a 100% finishing rate so far. The 6’0” lightweight fighter checked off a successful 2024 conquest with two finishes, including a round 2 guillotine choke victory over Oli Pett at Caged Stand & Strike (CSAS) 13 on November 30. His lean frame and aggressive fighting style have started to draw attention to the UK regional realm with iconic finishes.

He hones his skills at BE Rudds in Cheltenham and also at IronMann MMA in Evesham. Swift is a promising prospect with a well-rounded fighting ability who can dominate his opponents both on the ground and on the feet. The tbJP Nutrition-sponsored fighter has two KO wins and one submission victory on his record of four pro fights. However, it’s easy to see why he’s known more for his name than his fighting ability. Having a name like ‘Taylor Swift’ can’t bode well for a fighter whose target demographic is mostly 18 to 35-year-old males.

It can be quite confusing for their respective fan bases. He has even been the subject of mockery by fellow fighters because of his shared name with the ‘Blank Space’ singer. So, is the 21-year-old considering a name change now that he’s making the rounds in the MMA world?

Is Taylor Swift considering a name change?

The Cheltenham native was lovingly named Taylor Swift by his parents who, 21 years ago, were oblivious that a 14-year-old girl from Pennsylvania would become one of the biggest pop stars, starting in 2004. But now that he has grown up and has another pop star in the midst with the same name, things have become awkward for him. We can’t imagine the kind of jokes (and bullying) that UK MMA fighter Taylor Swift would have endured for sharing names with a female pop star.

He even spoke about it to The Sun regarding the same, stating that he planned to change his name. He said, “Even at weigh-ins, people start laughing. The worst part is when the announcer is reading out the names before a fight. People ask if I’m serious when I tell them my name. It gets a laugh when I’m going through airport security and on the door at clubs.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is sharing a name with a pop icon a blessing or a curse for this MMA fighter?

Have an interesting take?

Quite a frustrating experience, and the fighter from Cheltenham considered changing his name at one point. However, it seems like he’s recognized an opportunity in sharing a name with the ‘Willow’ singer, admitting that there are some benefits as well. “The name will help. A big part of the sport is about social media and sales,” he said while adding that anything and everything helps with publicity.
