Jean Silva is all set to land against Bryce Mitchell at UFC 314 to finish a pretty entertaining rivalry with the Arkansas native. The Fighting Nerds’ star strives hard to showcase his fighting prowess in the cage, and in doing that, ‘Lord’ has amassed a highly impressive 15-2 record, and is undefeated in Dana White‘s promotion. However, the Brazilian is yet to break into the top 15 of the featherweight division, but a win over Mitchell might just make the difference.

Well, that was a brief on his fighting career, but do you know Jean Silva, the person, not the fighter? As we inch closer to the PPV in Miami this weekend, let’s get to know the 28-year-old on a personal level, starting with his roots and origin. Here’s what we know.

Is Jean Silva Brazilian? Ethnicity and nationality

Born as Jackson Jean da Silva on the 27th of December, 1996, in Florianopolis, the 145lbs up-and-comer is a proud Brazilian. While his ethnicity is also Brazilian, there’s no further breakdown available on this front – whether he’s a mix of certain indigenous groups, has European, African, or any other connection. However, Silva’s fighting style and his cultural identity are all tied to his native country, and it’s pretty evident to many MMA fans.

Jean Silva, needless to say, is a phenomenal striker, and if you’re confused, you can take a look at his highlights on social media. Just like any Brazilian fighter, he possesses great skills in jiu-jitsu and even capoeira, which is a style that UFC’s biggest star, Conor McGregor, has incorporated into his fighting style. In association with the Fighting Nerds, ‘Lord’ has often demonstrated the agility and the strength that it takes to be a successful fighter.

Well, we’ve now established the details of Jean Silva’s roots, his heritage, and the community he belongs to. Now, let’s take another look at his personal life, which is the religion he practices.

What religion does Jean Silva follow?

Much like most fighters, Jean Silva hasn’t really spoken about his religious beliefs and opinions on a public platform ever, as most people are only acquainted with his journey to the UFC. But if we take a look at the city he was born in, Florianopolis, reports from 2010 claim that his hometown has a large number of religious groups. Those include Roman Catholics (which is the most dominant group), Protestants/Evangelicals, Spiritists, indigenous groups, and even people without any religion. Hence, Silva could belong to any of these religious groups.

However, we can argue that Jean Silva could be a Christian because most inhabitants of his hometown are followers of Christianity. Then again, there was his recent warning to Bryce Mitchell in the ‘UFC Embedded: Vlog Series’, where he tells ‘Thug Nasty’, “If Jesus Christ allowed it, not even the devil can’t stop me.” This further substantiates the assumption that he could be a follower of Christianity as well.

Jean Silva’s religion may not be confirmed, but his fight is. He had trouble making weight ahead of UFC 314, but managed to get to the 146 lbs weight limit in his second attempt. So, it remains to be seen if he can avoid missing a win against Bryce Mitchell.
