With more than two months still remaining, Dana White and team interrupted the broadcast of UFC 330, headlined by Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry Machado, to share details surrounding UFC 333.

Set for October 24 in Abu Dhabi, the card will feature the much-anticipated showdown between featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and top contender Movsar Evloev, who will now headline a stacked card featuring Petr Yan‘s bantamweight title defense against former champion Merab Dvalishvili in their trilogy bout as the co-main event. The presence of many more prominent names across the weight divisions makes UFC 333 a potential contender for the best card of the year.

At the top of the bill stood Alexander Volkanovski. Following the first title defense of his second reign as a featherweight champion, the Australian star faces the unbeaten Movsar Evloev. The Russian has remained near the top of the title picture for a long time.
Active in the UFC since 2018, the law graduate extended his nine-fight winning streak in the UFC by defeating the then-unbeaten Lerone Murphy at UFC London on March 1. The fight was deemed an unofficial title eliminator by most.

If not similar, a familiar storyline unfolds in the co-main event, where Petr Yan meets Merab Dvalishvili for the third time. The two share a history that goes back three years, when they first met at a UFC Fight Night in March 2023. The Georgian won the bout by unanimous decision. The pair met again at UFC 323 in December last year, where Yan prevailed and defeated Dvalishvili on the scorecards.
As with Volkanovski, the trilogy in October marks the Russian’s first title defense in his second stint as a bantamweight champion.
What adds a layer to the showdown is that all four fighters competing in the main and co-main events are currently ranked in the men’s top-20 pound-for-pound rankings.
But the depth doesn’t end there with the main card featuring several more intriguing matchups.
It begins with the two top-ranked flyweight contenders, Lone’er Kavanagh and Ramazan Temirov. With the divisional champion Joshua Van defending his title against top-ranked Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 331, the fight between the young Englishman and the Uzbek, who remains unbeaten in the UFC, looks like a potential highlight.
The matchup is particularly important for Kavanagh, who comes off a submission loss to Brandon Royval at UFC 329. UFC 333 will be his third appearance in 2026.
The penultimate fight on the main card features the heavyweight duel between Alexander Volkov and Rizvan Kuniev. At UFC 333, the fight between the two Russians could have major implications, with both entering as top-10 contenders.
On a two-fight winning streak that includes wins over Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Jailton Almeida, Volkov looks to improve his standing before champion Tom Aspinall makes a comeback and potentially shakes up the weight class. Kuniev has enjoyed a similar run, defeating Almeida before knocking out Tyrell Fortune, with both wins coming this year.
The Dagestan native could considerably improve his ranking if he defeats a highly regarded fighter like Volkov.
The most surprising matchup appears to be that of Aaron Pico. Coming off the loss to Lerone Murphy on his UFC debut, the wrestling standout rebounded with a win over Patricio Pitbull at UFC 327 on April 11. Months later, during a slip-up, former champion Aljamain Sterling revealed that Pico will be booked against Youssef Zalal in his next fight.
Instead, Pico now returns to face another Englishman on the card, Arnold Allen, who will be making his third appearance in 2026.
Beyond these main card bouts, the preliminary card also offers plenty of excitement.
UFC 333: The prelims refuse to take a back seat
There are two light heavyweight bouts featured in that section. The first one has former title challenger Dominick Reyes facing the Russian Azamat Murzakanov, who suffered a defeat from Paulo Costa at UFC 327.
In the second bout, Ukrainian Nikita Krylov will fight Abdul Rakhman Yakhyaev from Turkey.
Before middleweights Abus Magomedov and Cam Rowston clash, the event is expected to open with the lightweight matchup between American Grant Dawson and Nurullo Aliev from Tajikistan.
Overall, the UFC has put together a deep lineup with meaningful matchups across the card. While days leading up to the event may witness some changes, the effort has made UFC 333 one of the most intriguing events as the year enters its final stretch.
