Jon Jones is widely recognized as the consensus MMA GOAT with his record serving as the living embodiment of this statement. Even Dana White considers him as the best to ever do it. However, there’s a stark difference between hearing about Jones’ talent and experiencing it firsthand. Just ask Mike Perry, who once found himself up close and personal with Jones’ skills—in fact, Jones’ feet were inches from his face.

While speaking on the Fight Back Podcast, Perry recounted an eye-opening experience that left him in awe of ‘Bones’ and served as a stark reminder not to mess with the current heavyweight champion. ‘Platinum’ witnessed the raw power and precision of ‘Bones’ during a practice session.

“So we started and I am jumping around, and Chase Sherman was in the ring—I ended up doing some rounds with Chase Sherman that night; heavyweight. And there were some other guys, but, so me and Jon started, and Jon started dancing around the ring like Anderson Silva,” Perry shared.

After Perry started showing off his antics, Jones decided it was time to teach him a lesson. Perry continued, sharing how ‘Bones’ demonstrated his superior skills in a way that left an impression. “(Jones) jumps up in the middle of the cage and spins around like a spinning back kick. It was like 5 or 6 feet in the air. He jumped and spun around to throw this kick, and I was like, ‘OK, well, I’m not coming around anymore.’ He didn’t try to hit me with the kick, he was just trying to show me—like, I saw his foot go by my face like that.”

But this wasn’t the only lesson Perry learned from Jones. Their relationship, which goes beyond their sparring sessions, is marked by mutual respect and camaraderie. Despite Perry’s chaotic and unpredictable personality, he has spoken positively about Jones on several occasions, even in light of the fighter’s ups and downs outside the Octagon.

In fact, Jones played a surprising role in Perry’s personal life—he was the one who helped ‘Platinum’ find his wife, Latory Gonzalez. This unexpected connection between the two highlights the depth of their relationship, which extends beyond the cage.

Mike Perry’s relationship with Latory Gonzalez is like something straight out of a movie. The two first met at an MMA event, and from the moment they crossed paths, they felt a spark. What makes their story even more unique is that Gonzalez didn’t just become Perry’s partner. She also became a key figure in his training camp.

Gonzalez has been with Perry since 2020, and her influence on his career has been undeniable. But what makes their story even more fascinating is that none of this would have happened without Jon Jones. In a video posted by Dirty Boxing on Instagram, Perry shared the story of how it all started. “She was wearing her leopard skirt. And she was cute. It was automatic. But here’s the thing, Jon Jones was there. And then he grabbed her arm and grabbed my arm and then I just picked her up. That’s funny. I liked her brown skin.”

The rest, as they say, is history. Perry and Gonzalez tied the knot in 2023, surrounded by the support of fans and MMA veterans alike.
