Merab Dvalishvili cannot stop talking about his injuries before title fights. ‘The Machine’ invited Dana White’s fury last year after he revealed a cut on his face before his UFC 306 clash against Sean O’Malley. The UFC CEO, of course, had chewed out the Georgian for this, going as far as to call him ‘stupid’.

But that has not stopped Dvalishvili from talking very publicly about an injury ahead of a fight yet again. The bantamweight champ, of course, is set to make his first title defense Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 this Saturday. However, the champ has many fans concerned after revealing that he is going into the clash somewhat compromised.

“Because I take a fight on six weeks’ notice I was training hard and I get a lot of pain banged up and I was dealing with some other injuries too, but thank God now I’m OK and ready to go,” Dvalishvili said in a recent interview. While he did not go into details about the injury, he promised to reveal them after the fight. However, it seems that the MMA outlet ‘BlackbeltMMA’ has found the exact injury Dvalishvili was talking about. They posted a video and a picture of Dvalishvili’s right leg showing a significant and long cut which was stitched up.

And fans, predictably, were very concerned about this injury. They took to the comments section of the post and let their thoughts known in no uncertain terms, mostly by predicting Dvalishvili would lose the fight, even as some fans felt it wouldn’t be a factor. Let us now take a look at a sample of the fans’ comments

Fans react to Merab Dvalishvili’s injury ahead of UFC 311

Merab Dvalishvili talking about his injury made one fan feel like he was making “Excuses already”. Injuries are a part of the game, and fighters rarely go into any fights a hundred percent. But talking about an injury if you have lost or before the fight comes across as a fighter trying to find justification for a loss.

Umar Nurmagomedov is a stylistic nightmare for ‘The Machine’. After all, the undefeated Dagestani has a world-class grappling game and has developed excellent and dynamic striking skills to go with it. This is why fans feel that the champ will have to put forth a performance for the ages to win at UFC 311. But with his recent revelations about injury, one fan was already writing an obituary to his title run: “Rip merab”.

Is Merab Dvalishvili setting himself up for failure by revealing injuries before crucial fights?

Have an interesting take?

Of course, Merab being injured gives Umar the perfect target to aim for in their fight, as one concerned fan rightfully pointed out: “Why does this guy always talk about his injuries. he’s just exposing himself”. Another agreed totally with this sentiment and that it would only take “1 kick to that wound 😬” for Dvalishvili to be in serious trouble against a powerhouse like the undefeated and remarkably well-rounded Dagestani.

However, another fan felt that the Georgian champ or the fans had nothing to worry about since the stitches were out and the ‘wound’ was just some scar tissue which shouldn’t affect his performance: “It was sutured before, the stitches are out it’s just scarred he’s literally fine he shouldn’t have an excuse it won’t affect anything”.

But another fan wasn’t really sure. From the naked eye, the scar does look bad and is quite long, which is why the fan couldn’t help but point out that: “that looks very compromised 😬”. What do you think about Merab Dvalishvili’s injury head of UFC 311?
