The opening fight of UFC Vegas 104 was packed with spectacular performances and thrilling back-to-back finishes. From stunning knockouts to consecutive Kimura submissions, the event was nothing short of a masterclass. But can any event truly end without controversy? Maybe not, as the fight between Alexander Hernandez and Kurt Holobaugh sparked a major controversy, with UFC judges once again at the center of fan outrage.

The UFC Apex fight between Alexander Hernandez and Kurt Holobaugh began with both the fighters throwing a combination of kicks and 1-2 on each other. Holobaugh took the center trying to put pressure on Hernandez to kick the fight off. However, Hernandez countered those kicks with punches. At the end of the final round, Hernandez attempted a takedown but was caught in a guillotine choke by Holobaugh, just lucky enough to be saved by the bell.

After a close first round, both fighters gave their best. Holobaugh tried to outstrike ‘The Great Ape’; however, he was unable to gain the upper hand. Hernandez’s wrestling proved to be Holobaugh’s kryptonite as the TUF winner couldn’t get the momentum that he was looking for. Despite Holobaugh’s grit and urgency to end the match in his favor, he had to concede defeat as Hernandez won the battle by way of unanimous decision.

The official scoring was (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).  As the judges announced their scored cards, fans couldn’t believe what they witnessed as the first round was completely Holobaugh, especially since he was close to submitting Hernandez. After the announcement of the verdict, fans took to their X handle to voice their opinion.

Another judging controversy for Dana White at UFC Vegas 104, fans react

Former bantamweight and flyweight champion Henry Cejudo took to his X handle to react to the judging error as he wrote, “30-27 for Hernandez is ridiculous #UFCVegas104.”  Well, this is not the first time that the UFC has been marred for judging errors. Recent UFC events have been marred by controversial decisions – be it from the judges or the referees- notably at UFC 313, where Alex Pereira’s coaches disputed his unanimous decision loss to Magomed Ankalaev.

Furthermore, another frustrated fan came forward to state, “I’m sorry, did he say 30-27 Hernandez? What. #UFCVegas104 #JudgesGonnaJudge. One of the most crucial judging errors happened back at the UFC 313 when Marion Santos was declared was given the victory against Francis Marshall, however, when Santos rewatched the fight, he came up with the verdict that Francis Marshall deserved victory.
