It has been four months since an Instagram user named ‘Rosie’ sparked concern for Nick Diaz. Claiming to be his girlfriend, she’d reveal in a frantic post that the UFC icon had been kidnapped, drugged, and smuggled to a rehab facility in Mexico by his cousin amid substance abuse struggles. While the rumor was denied immediately, little has been known about the situation ever since.

Only a day after the concerning post, Nick’s coach, Cesar Gracie, had shut down the fears with a training photo. He’d share that Nick was neither cloned nor kidnapped, but was rather healthy and well. That was about as much as we would be hearing about the Stockton native for a while. Until his teammate offered just one more puzzle piece today.

In the latest episode of Jake Shields’ Fight Back Podcast, Rumble on the Rock Welterweight Champion Jake Shields revealed where Nick Diaz was currently at. While introducing the podcast team, which includes Nick, Nate, Shields, and Gilbert Melendez, he said, “We’re the people known as the Skrap Pack. We’re three-fourths of it. Our boy Nick’s in Mexico right now.”

Diaz hasn’t been sighted ever since Gracie shared the photo in June. The only update that followed was in August, when the coach himself revealed that Nick was doing well with the support of his family and friends. “It is heartening to see Nick’s circumstances improving, and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who has wished and prayed for his well-being and speedy recovery. God bless us all. Nick still the goat,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

Though it hasn’t been officially noted, Diaz is believed to be in a rehab in Mexico. A series of concerning behaviours had lined up for him leading up to the post by his alleged girlfriend, and everything that followed:

  • In November 2025, a viral clip showed Diaz couched behind a bush, lighting things on fire
  • Shortly before, he had left blank messages for his fans on a service app they paid for
  • In December, he pulled out from a fight with Vicente Luque for ‘undisclosed reasons.’

Then in January this year, Shields, who has known Diaz for well for two decades, revealed: “He had some stuff that’s been going on for a little while. It’s finally heading in the right direction. So I’m hopeful for Nick, because he’s like a brother to me, [and] one of my best friends.”

More recently, the former UFC middleweight title challenger was among the names removed from rankings eligibility, nearly confirming his permanent absence from the octagon. He hasn’t fought since 2021, but has refused to speak of retirement just yet.

For now, his coach and the Skarp pack — the four-member group which forms the core of the Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu camp — have acted as his spokespersons, carrying updates. Until Diaz returns, that might be the group to turn to.
