When Mike Tyson speaks, the world listens—but sometimes when he speaks, it’s hard to keep a straight face. Whether it’s pronouncing certain words with his signature lisp, or messing up words altogether, the boxing legend has given numerous moments of comedy gold. So, what did Mike Tyson say that was so funny? Well, nothing much apart from completely mispronouncing a UFC fighter’s last name.

While having a conversation with the UFC CEO Dana White about ‘Funkmaster’, Mike Tyson asked White about Aljamain Sterling’s last opponent, “Didn’t he just fight? Who did Sterling just fight? Great fight.” For Dana White, it was one of those moments where the answer was somewhere in the back of his head but he just needed his memory to be jogged, “Yeah, he just beat—who the f— did he just beat?”

And then it struck Mike Tyson as he said, “He fought Henry, right? Henry Aruto?” The former heavyweight GOAT was mentioning the UFC 288 fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo. Moreover, the UFC CEO himself didn’t catch the mispronunciation of Cejudo’s name, making it an even funnier moment for fans.

This moment is particularly funny because it resembles Conor McGregor’s mispronunciation of Ilia Topuria’s name. ‘The Notorious’, in one of his appearances with Duelbits, read a question by a fan, “How do you think you’d beat Ilia Apturo, Topturo?”. Yet another hilarious moment in MMA memedom.

The UFC is no stranger to meme-worthy moments such as these, and fans are all here for it. So what they did say when Mike Tyson mispronounced Henry Cejudo’s name? Well, true to form, they took to the comments to post some hilarious responses.

MMA community in splits at Mike Tyson mispronouncing Henry Cejudo’s name

Starting off, Mike Tyson’s comments invoked a popular Japanese anime for one fan. Here’s what they said, “Henry Aruto sounds like Naruto.” In the same lines, another fan name-dropped the titular character from the show and combined it with Cejudo’s: “Real name Uzumaki Cejudo.”

Another fan was confused by the timeline of the post. The clip originally dates back to the period following UFC 288 in May 2023. One fan asked, “How long ago was this  cause aljo’s most recent win was mosvar i though.” Aljamain Sterling lost to Movsar Evloev last December at UFC 310.

Mike Tyson is the subject of many impressions because of his demeanor and accent—a heavy Bostonian accent with that signature lisp. And one fan was mindful of the heavyweight boxing legend’s age, as they wrote, “It happens. All good Unc.”

Last but not least, a fan had a pretty genuine question for the UFC CEO Dana White, “why does dana look drained off?” Maybe because he’s a tumbler filled to the brim with the responsibility of promoting his promotion, which he worked hard to build?

Regardless, we all love Mike Tyson, not just for his iconic in-ring performances, but also for his off-ring persona, which has seen an evolution through the years. Mike Tyson has one of the most complete arcs in all of combat sports. We wish him the best!
