Last year, Carlos Prates became the first fighter from the Fighting Nerds to register a loss in the UFC. Fortunately for him, the welterweight fighter got a win back, and that too in dominant fashion. But for his teammates, Caio Borralho, Mauricio Ruffy, and Jean Silva, things have been pretty bad as all of them lost their recent fights in the space of weeks. Well, it appears that they have nothing to worry about because the legendary duo, Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, have identified the main issue, which is the need for more coaches.
Yes, Henry Cejudo was the one who claimed that the Fighting Nerds need to get more coaches in for their team so that every fighter gets the help they need. ‘Triple C’, claiming that there is a need for a wrestler on their team, said, “I feel like they need to bring [in] more coaches. I feel like as their team continues to keep growing, more fighters are going to come, and it could get diluted,” on the Pound 4 Pound podcast. “I think they need to bring in some wrestler, a legit wrestler, and then maybe even bring training partners to come and do that.” Thereafter, Kamaru Usman shared some tips for Caio Borralho and Co. straight from the book of his team, the Blackzilians.
The former welterweight champion claims that the Blackzilians always trained with legitimate wrestlers, with some of them being Olympians, and urged the Fighting Nerds to do the same. He named wrestlers like Greg Jones and Kenny Monday, who joined him and his team in training. Also, Usman revealed that his former training partner and mentor, Rashad Evans, highly emphasized the importance of wrestling, which was the game-changer, since he, much like the Fighting Nerds, had great standup skills. It is better to prepare and make the required changes in the team before Borralho and his team meet the same fate as the Blackzilians did, which is collapse.

“We had Greg [Jones] at one point. We had Kenny Monday at one point. We’ve had Mike van Arsdale at one point… Our team, I think that our foundation was when we were the Blackzilians, it was hot… The one that they did very well is Rashad Evans made it a point for us to have a wrestling coach because, obviously, you know Rashad is a wrestler as well,” said Kamaru Usman. “This is something that the Fighting Nerds can utilize is getting a good wrestling coach out there.”

He’s been hearing what people have had to say about the Fighting Nerds, and he hasn’t taken that too kindly. ‘Lord’ has promised that he and his team will be back in the winning column very soon.
“Unfortunately, yesterday the emotion got the better of me. I was seeing well in the second round, but I ended up rushing in with everything just wanting to throw down,” Jean Silva stated in a video on Instagram. “One thing you guys were right about: The Fighting Nerds lost three in a row. So the three of us must be making similar mistakes. So for sure, me, Caio, and Ruffy will have a meeting. We’ll figure this out and improve. Whether people like it or not, I’m sorry, but we’ll be back.”
