Most UFC guys don’t just fight and train all the time. They do enjoy their downtime away from the sport. And as is the case with veterans like Justin Gaethje and Daniel Cormier, some play golf. Recently, the duo paired up again for a friendly game on the green. However, the 36-year-old soon found his fellow competitor using some unfair tactics to get ahead.
Justin Gaethje has in the past already mentioned how Daniel Cormier has yet to pay him back when he’s lost a game of golf. “I’m plus 1200 dollars, kind of. He hasn’t paid me yet, lets see if DC pays,” he said during an interview. Knowing that DC would likely cheat to avoid paying up again, the lightweight, this time around, employed his cameraman to catch the former double champion in the act. The humorous interaction was shared by Gaethje on his YouTube channel.

Justin Gaethje and Daniel Cormier talk about a hypothetical fight after ‘DC’s caught cheating
During the play, Justin Gaethje told his cameraman that he would pay him $100 every time he successfully caught Daniel Cormier on camera cheating. “I’ll give you $100 cash, but I need proof because I tell everyone he’s a cheater. But I need proof,” he said. Soon, the cameraman captured Daniel Cormier moving his golf ball before taking a shot, which inadvertently caught Gaethje’s attention. “You cheated,” Justin Gaethje stated. Denying any wrongdoing, Daniel Cormier replied, “No, I didn’t. Why? Coz, I’m telling the camera, ‘Let’s go’?” This prompted ‘The Highlight’ to call him out.

“You’re just a terrible cheat… You’re the worst liar in the world.” And guess what? Cormier admitted that he’s not very good at making things up. “(To the camera) All guys don’t like it when I tell my lie. It was a really bad lie. I think a man should have the opportunity to say, ‘Hey, I don’t like that lie.’ They should add that to the golf rules,” the UFC legend admitted.

It seemed like Daniel Cormier didn’t like the fact that he was caught by Justin Gaethje for cheating and warned him about beating ‘The Highlight’ up when they train. The former BMF champion was game for a sparring session, as he predicted Cormier could take him down with his wrestling, but he would for sure land some heavy shots on the former double champion before going down.
“If you go to train tonight at 5, I think I’m going to come to the gym and punch you in your f—ing face. I swear to God,” Daniel Cormier further stated. Justin Gaethje hilariously claimed that a fight between them is likely to take place “at the Apex.” Additionally, the lightweight fighter said, “I would beat you up, but you would win because then you would wrestle f— me.”
Apart from being competitive, Justin Gaethje and Daniel Cormier have mutual respect for each other. As we all know, ‘The Highlight’ has spoken about hanging up his gloves if he doesn’t get a title shot. However, ‘DC’ doesn’t want that. Here’s what he had to say.

Gaethje’s retirement would be a massive blow to the UFC, Cormier claimed
Daniel Cormier, much like the rest of the UFC community, did not feel good when Dustin Poirier retired at UFC 318. He was a big name and one of the biggest fan-favorites the promotion has ever seen. Similarly, ‘DC’ believes the same can happen when Justin Gaethje retires, given that he’s a big name, and it’s understandable because there’s an argument that the UFC doesn’t have too many stars on its roster.
“It sounds like he’s more than willing now to stand by that [about wanting a title shot] and be done,” Daniel Cormier said in a video he posted on YouTube after UFC 318. “That would suck because MMA is better when Justin Gaethje is fighting. We just had to watch Dustin Poirier retire last weekend, and that absolutely sucked… I don’t know that they’re going to do that [give him a title shot], especially when you go through all the things that Arman has a case, Paddy has a case.”
Well, Justin Gaethje had talked about being on his last run towards the title in 2023, so he might be in on the idea of retiring as 2025 comes to a close. It remains to be seen how Dana White addresses his situation, given that he’s one of the most exciting fighters in UFC history. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
