The illustrious career of Jon Jones is nearing its end. The UFC champion recently disclosed he planned to hang his gloves after squaring off against Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden towards the end of the year. While he has specified his intent to devote his time to being a family man, the question of his transition to other sports also looms large.

‘Bones’, who clinched the heavyweight crown after crushing Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, gained accolades and admiration for his fighting acumen. The heavyweight lynchpin’s skills as a fighter remained a notch higher than whoever he fought. Fans and pundits alike have theorized how the 35-year-old would have fared if he ever switched to the boxing ring and faced the likes of Tyson Fury. While a majority of MMA fans might rally behind the Rochester native to score a win, the fighter himself thinks otherwise.

Jon Jones has a shocking grade for himself as a boxer

The 27-1-1 record holder, informed Wide World of Sports, of his forthcoming plans, and also the speculations of entering a boxing ring. As opposed to the fans’ expectations, he dismissed the prospect of jumping ship to boxing.

He said, “If you were forced to take all my other skills away from me and forced me to box, you’d get an average boxer.”

This statement stands in sharp contrast to UFC commentator Joe Rogan‘s recent proclamation. The famed podcaster in a recent JRE episode had claimed ‘The Gypsy King’ had “zero chance” of triumphing over the MMA fighter if both fought it out for survival.

Tyson Fury stands no chance of escaping Jones

The 55-year-old stated while talking to comedian Andrew Schulz on a recent JRE podcast episode, “No one thinks that Tyson Fury can beat Jon Jones in a fight. No one thinks that. Tyson doesn’t think that.”

Following this, the color commentator suggested pushing all of his chips on Jones if both fighters were locked in a room. Despite the Brit being an amazing boxer, it was the wrestler who would emerge as the victor.

He summed up, “He [Tyson Fury] doesn’t have a f**king chance in hell of making it out of that room. Zero chance.”
