PayPal, Tesla, Space-X, X (formerly) Twitter, and now DOGE. What’s next? Well, what’s next has been a running theme for Elon Musk. What exactly are we talking about? Well, it’s his mission to put us on Mars of course. Long before he became the divisive figure we know (post-COVID Elon), he was largely known as the man who will take our civilization to the red planet. And it seems like this thought, this one-way journey to Mars was not conceived in the 2010s, but more than seven decades prior. This was the latest talking point on JRE episode #2270.
While talking about simulations, the universe and the cosmos, Rogan touched upon a certain manuscript from the late 1940s that involves colonizing the planet Mars, and a character named ‘Elon’. “Every now and then, the Universe shows us something like this f******g Wernher Von Braun book, where you go, ‘What?’ Even the name, ‘Elon and Mars’.. Like, what are the f*****g odds?”, Rogan stated.
“And then it turns out that Elon was actually named by his father when his father read that book? But no, even crazier, what are the odds your son is going to be the guy who goes to f*****g Mars.”, the comedian and podcaster added.

To provide some context, Project Mars: A Technical Tale (Marsprojekt) was a book written by German-American rocket physicist Wernher von Braun in 1949. The book, in its original German text, remains unpublished, but almost 30 years after Braun’s death, Apogee Books released the English-translated version in 2006. The premise basically talks about a government of 10 men on Mars, the leader of whom is referred to as ‘Elon’ by the Martians.

So is it coincidence that whatever happened in the book might be reflective of what Elon Musk wants to do with speech exploration and colonizing Mars? Well, it isn’t a coincidence if Elon Musk’s father actually read the book and named his son after one of the characters in it. But the fact that Von Braun made this prediction more than 70 years ago, and we’re now living in a point of time where a Mars expedition is an actual talking point, makes this all the more bizarre.
But apparently, the book wasn’t the only reason Errol Musk named his son ‘Elon’, “When Maye [Maye Musk, Elon Musk’s mother] and I got married, I was quite amazed to discover that her father’s grandfather or something had been called Elon … which reminded me of the stories we had, and so I thought, well yes, I like that name for Elon.”

As for Joe Rogan and Elon Musk? Well, it’s no secret that the duo are close. So, it was no secret when they both spoke about potentially saving humanity from a certain doom.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Elon Musk's Mars mission destiny or just a wild coincidence from a 1940s manuscript?
Have an interesting take?
Joe Rogan and Elon Musk dropped a 100-year warning.
In The Joe Rogan Experience #2223, the comedian and tech mogul discussed the decline of civilization and how we can prevent that from happening. The UFC color commentator was pretty worried about the chances of the human race ceasing to exist in 100 years. The Tesla CEO responded that he does not think that human civilization would be completely obliterated unless nuclear war or fallout was involved.

Expressing concern, Rogan said, “The logical hope is that people pay attention to history, recognize the patterns of how civilizations have collapsed, and learn from them. When they see what’s going wrong in our current society, they should aim to mitigate those issues. History offers countless lessons—if we can recognize those, we can course correct. The idea is to manage and maintain what we have now because what we’ve built is extraordinary. That’s the hope, whether it’s tied to an election or the broader future.”
We can only hope that human civilization doesn’t undo itself for whatever reason. But if there was any indication of that happening, the option to go to Mars still holds up? We’ll decide when it comes to that. For now, let us know your thoughts on how Elon Musk got his name, and his endeavor to put us on Mars!
