On media day for UFC 314, Jean ‘Lord’ Silva made a fool of himself with his iconic barks. Well, during the session with the media, the Brazilian featherweight contender felt he heard his opponent, Bryce Mitchell, talking at the back of the stage. And with a smirk for the cameras, Silva began to bark. Unfortunately, the noise reached the wrong target. It wasn’t Mitchell talking backstage, but our very own Daniel Cormier. What a way to become a laughing stock, right? But this celebratory act has also created quite some intrigue. Why exactly does ‘Lord’ bark?
Well, according to a post on Instagram by Combat Forever HQ, Silva revealed that it was the way he expressed his emotions as a child. He said, “My barks are supposed to be like a rottweiler, but it comes out as a pincher. It’s just the way that I express my emotions. I will never be able to hold my emotions down. I just can’t do it. It’s always been like this since I was a kid. It’s just the way I express myself. It’s crazy, right? A guy expressing his emotions by barking, but it’s just the way it is. It was supposed to be a rottweiler, though.”
Silva’s barking began to take over the internet as the date for UFC 314 inched closer. And it all began with the Brazilian fighter shutting his opponent down with his furious barks and chants. Yes, during the press conference outing for the event, a reporter asked ‘Thug Nasty’ about pulling out of his Karate Combat bout to take up the fight against Silva. But his recent controversial statements, including the pro-Hitler remarks and falt Earth assertions, the crowd erupted in boos for the fighter. And that’s when Silva turned his barking on, immediately shutting Mitchell tight.

Jean Silva reveals his true feelings about Bryce Mitchell before their clash at UFC 314
Silva has already let his feelings about Mitchell go public. To counter Mitchell’s flat Earth propositions, he even got to the UFC 314 media day with a globe in his hands. Well, Silva did believe that the #13 featherweight contender was an excellent fighter. After all, he was one of those who battled the likes of Ilia Topuria, Edson Barboza, and Dan Ige. However, things went downhill for Mitchell following his loss against Josh Emmett. Silva told the reporters, “Everything was going good until he got knocked out by Josh Emmett. I think that really messed up his brain and his emotions, and everything just kind of went wrong. You can tell he’s not looking at this the same way that he used to look at it before. It just really messed him up.”
He went on, “He doesn’t treat me with respect. So I go based off of that. Based off my interactions with him, he does not have Jesus in his heart because he treats me like total shit and I’m not afraid to say that to his face. If you love Jesus, then treat people with respect and that’s not what he does. Jesus has two commandments: To love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. Does he treat me as he treats himself? I think his feelings are very ill and it’s not going to be fun when he’s having his face smashed in.”

Is Jean Silva's barking a genius mind game or just plain ridiculous? What's your take?

On the other hand, Silva claimed that he never disrespected Mitchell as a fighter. Neither did he diss his skills and abilities. Having fought some of the toughest fighters in the UFC indeed got Mitchell at a respectable position. Unfortunately, ‘Thug Nasty’ saddened the 28-year-old when he disregarded that position and disrespected people. Nevertheless, the Brazilian hoped that the 30-year-old’s comments were nothing more than publicity stunts, designed to sell his fights. And the beef between the two would likely come to an end on Saturday night, don’t you agree?
