So, it turns out that Conor McGregor‘s appearance at Donald Trump’s inauguration was the push he needed to (re)enter Ireland’s political scene. With no set plans to return to fighting anytime soon, his sporting career is at a low ebb. So, what does the Irishman do? Well, he has shifted his focus away from MMA and toward politics. Late last year, he announced his ambition to run for president in his nation in 2025, and he has now found support, as he gets likened to 47th United States President Donald Trump.

‘The Notorious’ recently made headlines by being one of the guests at Trump’s inauguration ceremony. Many did not expect an appearance by the Irishman at the event; however, he made his presence known and even made some new friends – one of which is political consultant Samantha Menh. Taking to her Instagram account, she praised Conor McGregor’s energy and how he reminded her a lot of the United States President himself.

Posting a picture of herself with the former UFC double champion, she wrote in the caption how it was an incredible honor to meet the Irishman since they both came from humble beginnings. As a result, she has immense admiration for his relentless drive, grit, and determination. She added, “What stood out most was the incredible energy he brings to the room and his unique ability—similar to President @realdonaldtrump—to make you feel like you’re the only person in the room. I am truly grateful for the time we spent together. #TRILLER Fam $ILLR @bareknucklefc”

The Irishman knew how much this little endorsement meant for his political plans. So, wasting no time, he made sure to share the post on his Instagram story. According to Conor McGregor, the reason he wants to run for president is because he would have all the answers that the people of Ireland are looking for. In a tweet, he let his agenda be known as he wrote, “As President I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it. So as I said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses, and on and on.” Well, it looks like Conor McGregor is adamant about running for office, and apart from Menh, he has another influential personality rooting for him.

Elon Musk backs Conor McGregor’s run for Presidency

The Irishman’s call did not go unnoticed, and one of the world’s most influential entrepreneurs, Elon Musk, reacted enthusiastically to the prospect of seeing the fighter as president of Ireland. Through his X account, the tech billionaire wrote, “You will beat everyone together,” showing his confidence in the athlete’s abilities to lead the nation. Conor McGregor expressed gratitude for Elon Musk’s endorsement and emphasized the significance of transparency and citizen participation in the democratic process.

Conor McGregor’s entry into Irish politics paints an interesting picture. His suggested shift, as well as the support of personalities like Elon Musk and Samanta Menh, might provide him with the motivation he needs to become a prominent force in Ireland’s political scene. However, ‘The Notorious’ faces significant obstacles in transitioning from sports icon to political leader. Only time will tell if he can succeed.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Conor McGregor's Trump-like charisma win over Ireland, or is he just chasing a pipe dream?

Have an interesting take?

Especially after the Dublin court found him liable in the Nikita Hand case, which became a major blow to his public image. With companies taking away endorsement deals and even the Dublin wax museum removing the wax figure of the UFC fighter, it would be a very tough task for Conor McGregor to win the elections. What do you think? Is the Irishman serious about his aspirations? Let us know in the comments.
