In the aftermath of UFC 312, Dana White and his matchmaking team have got another potential champion vs champion superfight in the making, as Dricus du Plessis and Alex Pereira have agreed to a face-off. Both fighters believe it’s a matchup fans want to see, but there’s a catch. Poatan has set one condition for Stillknocks to make the fight happen.

During Alex Pereira’s time as a middleweight, many questioned how he managed to make it to the 185-pound weight limit, given his big size. However, now, he’s had enough. Pereira’s next aim is to move up the weight category and win a third title. If Dricus du Plessis wants a shot at Alex Pereira, he’s welcome to face him in Poatan’s division.

“Yeah, it will definitely be a 205 [fight]. I’ve said it before, I don’t want to cut down to 185 anymore. It’s just too complicated for the weight cut,” Alex Pereira told New York Post Sports. After beating Sean Strickland, Dricus du Plessis revealed that he had a backstage chat with the 205-pound king. The South African seemed to have no problems making that jump to light heavyweight, since he also wishes to become a double champion.

However, Pereira mentioned one key detail that Du Plessis left out, the 31-year-old showed a little hesitation during their conversation. “But even behind the scenes [after UFC 312], I asked him if that was a callout to me and he said yes. I said 205, and he was kind of unsure, but he said sure, so we’ll see,” Alex Pereira added.

Dricus du Plessis will show his ‘best’ when he fights Alex Pereira, claims his teammate

Dricus du Plessis may have an awkward fighting style, but it works! Besides the power in his punches, the 31-year-old’s got exceptional ground game. In fact, Stillknocks once defeated an entire team of Gracie Barra representatives. Now that’s highly impressive, to say the least. As such, his CIT MMA teammate, Mark Hulme, believes that Alex Pereira could bring a real fight.

“I haven’t really met anyone of his physical stature if I can say it like that. I’m excited for what’s still to come,” said Dricus du Plessis’ teammate on Bowks Talking Bouts. “I don’t think you guys have even seen the best out of him. You’ve seen his best performance to date. But there’s still a lot more that he can bring to the table.”
