With a two-fight losing streak, Alexander Volkanovski walked out to the Octagon at UFC 314 with a mission to prove that he’s still got a lot left in the tank. Taking on a much younger Diego Lopes, ‘The Great’ lived up to his moniker and delivered an outstanding performance to edge past his Brazilian counterpart via a decision victory. After winning the featherweight title for a second time, most people thought that Volkanovski might want to take some rest before addressing his next fight plan, but the Aussie star was quick to make his pick.

Undefeated star Movsar Evloev has been yearning to get a title shot since early last year after his UFC 297 victory over Arnold Allen. However, it fell on deaf ears, but he called for it once again after his UFC 310 win over Aljamain Sterling. While there was no word from Dana White, Alexander Volkanovski decided to answer Evloev’s prayers and agreed to hand him a title shot. ‘The Great’ seemed excited about beating another up-and-comer and adding it to his resume of defeated opponents.

“He’s undefeated. I like the fact that he’s undefeated and still one of the younger generation again, right? I think for the legacy, that would still mean so much,” the 2-time featherweight champion told FOX News Australia. However, we didn’t really have any confirmation regarding when the fight would take place until now, with Evloev’s recent statement.

Movsar Evloev has shared a message, hinting that big news is coming soon. “There will be an update soon,” the Russian national stated in a post on social media (translated via Instagram). Well, with Alexander Volkanovski in agreement, all the fingers are pointing towards the Aussie veteran, taking on Evloev in the first title defense of his second championship reign.

While we do have a hint that this fight is going to go down, we still have to wait for an official word regarding that matter. Why? Well, Dana White actually had other plans for Movsar Evloev, which apparently does not include Alexander Volkanovski. Instead, it involves a newcomer, but it didn’t end up materializing. Let’s take a look at that front.

Movsar Evloev snubs Aaron Pico for Alexander Volkanovski

One of the most exciting new signings by the UFC included up-and-coming former PFL star Aaron Pico, who’s built quite a name for himself with 11 career finishes in 17 professional MMA fights. Dana White appears to have a lot of faith in Pico to deliver in the UFC and become a top star, as he decided to pit the former PFL star against Movsar Evloev in his debut fight.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Movsar Evloev dethrone Volkanovski, or will 'The Great' add another win to his legacy?

Have an interesting take?

However, the 19-0 grappling-heavy brawler has no interest in deviating from his wish to compete for Alexander Volkanovski’s title. According to reports from Red Fury MMA, Movsar Evloev vehemently rejected the offer to fight Aaron Pico. “I don’t care, honestly. If he’s thinking that I don’t deserve [to fight] for the title, just give me another fight,” Evloev stated this last year prior to these reports, which highlights the fact that he’s not begging but asking for a much-deserved title shot.

Well, it will be interesting to see what Movsar Evloev has in store for us. He’s undoubtedly the most credible contender for a title in the featherweight division, and his current ranking proves that. But until we get the final word from the UFC head honcho, Dana White, himself, let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
