What is a UFC event without controversy? UFC 313’s prelims left fans fuming. It was the fight between Armen Petrosyan and ‘The Hulk’ Brunno Ferreira but not only did ‘Superman’ fail to live up to his moniker, but he also became the villain of the night after a series of fouls and a consequent point deduction. Here’s the thing:
The Armenian-Russian fighter tried every trick in his arsenal at UFC 313, even some questionable tactics that might have stopped anyone but the Brazilian. ‘Superman’ struck Brunno Ferreira with a low blow, momentarily stopping the fight. When the action resumed, he landed another shot to Ferreira’s groin. Referee Mark Smith, unimpressed by the repeated fouls, wasted no time deducting a point. The momentum was lost and Petrosyan had to push back into the fight. But no, things didn’t stop here.
Round two witnessed some more sketchy moments. For instance, Petrosyan claimed his opponent punched him with a low blow. But when the footage was reviewed, it was decided that the latter’s punch was nowhere near his cup. Further, when Ferreira brought Petrosyan down on the canvas, ‘Superman’ also grabbed the fence.

As per Unified Rules of MMA, groin attacks of any kind are considered as “fouls in a contest or exhibition of mixed martial arts and may result in penalties, at the discretion of the referee.” In fact, “holding or grabbing the fence or ropes with fingers or toes” also comes under this.
However, the Brazilian didn’t let any of this deter him from his mission. The heated-up stand-up war took a violent turn when Ferreira continued to increase the pace and drag ‘Superman’ to the deep waters. Ferreira landed a thunderous overhand left that had Petrosyan on shaky legs. As Ferreira dropped the Armenian to the canvas, it didn’t take him long to finish the fight by way of an armbar. It took him just two rounds to finish the fight.

With this loss, Petrosyan’s UFC career might be in jeopardy. Not only has he been defeated in three back-to-back fights (Brunno Ferreira, Sharabutdin Magomedov, and Rodolfo Vieira) but each loss also came by way of a finish. As he rides a three-fight losing streak, his career record stands at 9 victories and 5 defeats.
It must be noted that the Armenian has yet to win any fight since his last victory against Christian Leroy Duncan at UFC Vegas 75 in 2023.

Looking at his stream of defeats, and the seemingly blatant fouls at UFC 313, the MMA community has come forward to call for UFC CEO Dana White to make a decision for Armen Petrosyan.
Fans want Armen Petrosyan axed after a disastrous outing at UFC 313!
It would not be wrong to state that Petrsosyan’s UFC career might be in the doldrums right now but a fan believes that the Armenian-Russian fighter might have one more fighter before Dana White and Hunter Campbell do their thing, “Maybe one more fight, but he’s been overrated by many he’s not good at all. “
In fact, do you know who helped Ferreira get the win? It was none other than Wanderlei Silva. They sparred together before UFC 313. “I have Wanderlei as a personal friend. We have a great relationship of going out, sitting down and having conversations, but I came to the team when master [Dida] was training him for the [Chael] Sonnen fight, so he was already retiring, he wasn’t training that much, so I never had the opportunity to train with him. And man, last week I had the opportunity to spar with him.”
Brunno Ferreira was just a 4-year-old when Silva became famous owing to a bloodbath fight with Artur Mariano at IVC in Brazil in 1997.
But coming back to UFC 313, Armen Petrsosyan tried to pull a lot of dirty tricks against Brunno Ferreira this evening. However, none of them stopped ‘The Hulk’ from getting his victory. So, a fan wrote, “I think so and his cheating won’t help his case.” Petrosyan landed a low blow that forced a stop to the action and the referee took a point as a penalty. So, another irate fan wrote, “hopefully f— that cheater.”
This is the second time in a row now that Petrsoyan is in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Last time, it was because Sharaputdin Magomedov finished him with a double spinning back fist at UFC 308, a first of its kind. This time, it’s another loss, that even a series of kicks could not prevent.

But it was not just the kicks. ‘Superman’ had to resort to a fence grab, in vain, to prevent a takedown attempt. Even if he had won the bout somehow, fans would not have forgiven him for these tactics. One comment read, “Hope so. He did two groin kicks, then a deliberate fence grab.”
Moreover, a fan believes that ‘Superman’ has one or two more fights left in his contract, “He should have another 1-2 fights left I reckon.” However, the promotion reserves the right to release him due to his losses before the contract is fought out. The question is, should they?
