Remember Conor McGregor’s BKFC 70 presser comments? “I’ve got two fights on the [UFC] contract, I’m in negotiations. Last week something happened to me. I went to The White House and my country is…my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there’s a lot of stuff going on back home. I’m happy with what I’ve done. There’s something else for me that’s in my gut right now and that’s kind of where I’m going.” Having been away from the fight game for almost four years, the Irishman seemingly destroyed any hopes for a possible return after he claimed to be happy with what he achieved in the UFC and his MMA career.

And it seemed true! One needs to look at how adamant the Dubliner is on running for Ireland’s President and how countless attempts to make a final run inside the Octagon have failed in the last couple of years. Let it be the UFC 264 freak injury disaster against Dustin Poirier or the last-minute cancellation at UFC 303 when pitted against Michael Chandler. Everyone thinks that we have seen the last of the former double champ inside the cage! However, it seems like he could be reconsidering his decision after claiming that he’s interested in his former TUF 31 rival who’s fighting in the UFC 314 co-main event this weekend.

Yes! We are talking about Chandler. Everyone and their grandma knows that the Missouri native has been calling out McGregor for a long time. And even when his scheduled fight at UFC 303 got scrapped, he was losing hope on the potential payday. In fact, the former Bellator champ even announced that he was going to call out the Dubliner yet again after his Miami PPV bout. But there is one twist! Chandler could very well be losing that opportunity to his upcoming opponent, Paddy Pimblett because the Irishman is not only targeting ‘Iron’ but is seemingly interested in the Englishman as well.

Despite all his endeavors outside of fighting, McGregor claimed to be looking forward to their fight in the co-main event on 12 April and hinted that he might be interested in taking on one of the fighters in the near future.

“I am interested in the Chandler/Pimblett fight this weekend,” ‘The Notorious’ stated in an Instagram post, where he was seen training and doing some pad work. Well, McGregor has mentioned coming back more times than we can remember. So, do you think this time is a genuine hint at a proper comeback? The former double champion even tagged the UFC and its parent company, TKO Group Holdings, in his post to let Dana White and Co. know as well.

Given how exciting Michael Chandler has proven to be inside the Octagon despite losing most of his UFC fights, his fight against Paddy Pimblett, who’s often drawn comparisons to McGregor, has sparked a lot of fanfare ahead of this weekend. And it seems the Irish megastar wants to get into the mix as well. So, with McGregor’s comments about the fight, the stakes have gotten higher in the UFC 314 co-main event.

However, a UFC legend has warned the Irishman about coming back to the UFC and fighting the top contenders. He appears to have no confidence in the Irishman about his ability to even compete in the UFC at all.

Chael Sonnen claims Conor McGregor will get destroyed if he makes a comeback

Chael Sonnen presented a pretty grim picture for Conor McGregor before the latter attempted to come back and fight again. First of all, his 3-plus years away from the game is already a concerning indicator of the fact that he’s been out of touch with fighting for way too long. Secondly, there are way more active fighters in both the lightweight and the welterweight divisions, whom, according to ‘The American Gangster’, McGregor will not be able to get the better of.

“There is not an athlete under contract with the UFC that Conor can beat. That’s not meant to be mean. The least experienced 155-pounder would clean him up. The least experienced 175-pounder would clean him up,” Chael Sonnen stated on his YouTube channel. “If Conor was to come back and enter at ’55 or enter at ’70, he would be the worst in the entire division.”
