Dana White is generous, but did you know that he was generous enough to help fighters get a new date after getting their fight canceled at the very last moment? We’re talking about the fight between Joe Pyfer and Kelvin Gastelum. The duo were set to clash against each other at UFC Mexico City. But Pyfer fell sick at the last moment and had to pull out on the day of the fight. Needless to say, that’s a behavior that the UFC head honcho doesn’t like. Remember when Arman Tsarukyan pulled out of UFC 311 because of his back injury? Well, White punished the Armenian by taking him out of the current title picture. But things seemed different with Pyfer.
John Marquez, ‘Bodybagz’s head coach, recently had an interview with RJ Clifford on MMA Today. Therein, he talked about Pyfer’s troubles while preparing for the fight against Gastelum. He said, “So, they’d [Pyfer and Sean Brady] been out there for two weeks, you know, trying to eat right, not drink the water, whatever… He actually got sick like three days after he landed. I think he had some coffee or something. He got sick, got over that, and then made weight. Everything was fine. We were going to the PI, training. Everything was good. And after weigh-ins on fight night like, 1 am on fight day, he just got super crazy sick, throwing up, fever, and you know, going to the bathroom non-stop. I think he lost like 12 pounds overnight, before like 8, 9 o’clock in the morning.”
Ultimately, ‘Bodybagz’ was forced to stay out of the bout. Without a doubt, White endured a heavy loss because of that. Not only did he have to cancel the fight, but he also had to pay Gastelum. But apparently, things are starting to get better for Pyfer. Marquez continued, “Thank God, and thanks to the UFC that they rebooked him for the Newark card. I think it’s June 7th. So, the work don’t stop. Right back to work.” Additionally, the famed reporter Damon Martin claimed that multiple sources reported the new date for Pyfer vs. Gastelum – UFC 316 headlined by the rematch between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.

Well, we still have to wait for Dana White to confirm if Marquez’s words are true. We have already seen how wrathful the UFC head honcho could be after Arman Tsarukyan’s pullout prior to UFC 311. Nevertheless, we can rest assured that Pyfer wouldn’t repeat his mistake if the rumors of the new schedule were true. After all, it was Mexico City that the middleweight put the blame on.
Joe Pyfer blames the location for ruining Dana White’s UFC Mexico City
Taking to Instagram right after the event in Mexico City, Pyfer shared a video where he ranted about his condition. And the blame? It was all on the North American country. He said, “I don’t care if it’s offensive to you, I will never go back to that country… If that’s what altitude and elevation is, f— that country. I will never fight there again. S— hole. Not going back. Don’t care if that’s offensive to you. You’re not the one fighting.”

Food poisoning can indeed hit at any time. However, it seemed a bit too common for ‘Bodybagz’. Back when he was scheduled to fight Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 303, Pyfer had a serious allergic reaction to flax seeds. Apparently, they were present in his oatmeal and he didn’t know about it. Thankfully, he got timely medical attention, letting him compete and win via a KO at UFC 303. But this time, his dehydrated and vulnerable body became the reason for his sickness.
