Certain reports claim that MMA is going through a period of recession because of a lack of big stars. Perhaps the biggest star in the sport, Conor McGregor, has yet to make his UFC return, having been out of action for over four years. But the Irishman is making his mark in the business world with several ventures, including a record label named Greenback Records. And it appears that McGregor’s attempt to make a mark in the music industry has led him to one of rap legend Eminem‘s former associates.

Well, if you haven’t heard it yet, here’s the news! One of Eminem’s prodigies, Obie Trice, has signed with Conor McGregor‘s record label. For those who are unaware, Trice has been in the hip-hop scene since the late 90s and worked under Eminem’s label, Shady Records. From 2000, he had been the right-hand man for the ‘Rap God’ singer, but departed from the organization in 2008. There were no reports of Trice falling out with Eminem.

Obie Trice would then go on to create his own record label, Back Market Entertainment, and produce hits like ‘Bottoms Up’, ‘The Hangover’, and ‘The Fifth’. Conor McGregor seemed over the moon about having one of the most well-known figures in the American rap scene join his organization and left a brief welcome message on social media. “Obie Trice, what’s up? It’s the Mac. Welcome to the team at Greenback Records. Another OG, certified on the team, baby. Let’s go,” McGregor said in a hype video on Instagram.

Well, the music industry is a vastly crowded one, and it is valued at around $29.6 billion. If Conor McGregor can break into it, it will be another of his successful business ventures, which might keep him away from fighting for good. However, making money is apparently not the only thing he cares about. When he established Greenback Records, McGregor showed a strong passion for representing his country in the music industry.

Conor McGregor is happy to “create Ireland’s first major record label”

When Conor McGregor announced his entry into the music industry with Greenback Records, he claimed to be a proud Irish owner of a record label with an aim. If you’re wondering what that is, well, ‘The Notorious’ has signed many international and local Irish talents, and he wants to make sure that they get a “fair deal” with respect to their contribution to the industry with their work.

“I am excited to create Ireland’s first major record label in an industry that I have had great interest in for some time,” Conor McGregor wrote last year on Instagram. “Greenback Records is here! We are forming a stable of artists that will avail of the best deals in the music industry. Period! I don’t f*** about with business, and this business will be no different! Welcome to Greenback Records!”
