If there were a personification for the Wild West in the UFC, Kevin Holland would have been at the forefront to lead the charge. Everyone and their grandma knows that ‘Trailblazer’ is the kind of guy who would fight anyone, anytime and anywhere. Holland has fought 20 times since 2020 between 170lbs and 185lbs. Talk about insane activity! Moreover, the Riverside native most recently offered to step in for UFC 314 against Carlos Prates as his original opponent, Geoff Neal pulled from the card. This was revealed by the Brazilian himself before Ian Garry stepped in and Prates’ UFC 314 bout was scrapped altogether.

This is crazy considering Holland just fought last month at UFC London against Gunnar Nelson! The UFC veteran has no title aspirations like almost every other fighter in the promotion. Instead, the man just likes to fight and get paid, which leads him to take fights on the shortest of notices in two separate weight classes. And he already knows exactly who he wants to fight next. Colby Covington! Or does he? Well, at least that is what he wrote in reply to a video of Covington’s verbal tiff with Paddy Pimblett backstage after UFC 314.

“So Colby’s healthy New Jersey then I’m thinking Luque el noche then Clarissa shields for the holiday #mixitup,” he said. As you can see, ‘Trailblazer’ is probably not being completely serious. At least about the fighting Clarissa Shields part. Shields, of course, is considered the greatest female boxer of all time by many. And has transitioned to MMA in recent times, and is 2-1 in the PFL at the moment.

But what about the Covington and Vicente Luque part? Well, it seems he is not joking about it. It seems Covington’s heated exchange with Pimblett after the latter’s UFC 314 victory over Michael Chandler has ticked off Holland, who wants to beat up ‘Chaos’ at UFC 316 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on June 7 later this year.

And since results don’t really matter to Holland, the UFC veteran is determined to face fan-favorite welterweight dynamo Luque at the Noche card (UFC 320) this September in Guadalajara, Mexico. But this raises a question!

Will Colby Covington accept a Kevin Holland clash next?

The thing is, Colby Covington may have no choice but to face Kevin Holland next. After all, ‘Chaos’ is on a steep downward trend. He was getting dominated by Joaquin Buckley in their UFC Tampa clash four months ago, before the fight was stopped by the doctor because of a huge gash on Covington’s eye. Before that, the fervent Trump supporter got embarrassed by Leon Edwards in their UFC 296 title clash in December 2023.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Kevin Holland the UFC's true wild card, or is Colby Covington still a worthy opponent?

Have an interesting take?

Right now, the Clovis native is in no position to fight a top-five opponent. So the choices he has left realistically are either fight some of the lesser-known young and hungry top fifteen guys. Or simply slug it out against Kevin Holland, who is roughly his own age and cares more about entertaining than actually winning.

Not to mention ‘Trailblazer’ is a big star! And a fight between him and Covington would be an interesting matchup that many fans would tune in for. Moreover, although Holland has a pretty solid grappling game, he prefers to do his best work on the feet. This would be a favorable matchup against ‘Chaos’ and his chain-wrestling fighting style. All in all, Holland is probably the best opponent Colby Covington could have at the moment. What do you think about Kevin Holland calling out Colby Covington for a UFC 316 clash?
