Jon Jones, the Pound for Pound GOAT as per Dana White, recently defeated Stipe Miocic solidifying his legacy further in UFC. But what now? Who will be his next contender? Two names keep cropping up—Tom Aspinall and Alex Pereria. While Aspinall, the interim heavyweight champ has been vouching and waiting for his chance to fight Jones, the 28-1-0 star has other wishes. He wants to fight against Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira since he is arguably the most powerful world champ in the UFC at the moment. But what do the insiders think? While others are still debating we have some intel from a particular ex-UFC fighter known for his amazing trash-talking back in the day.
Chael Sonnen aka ‘The American Gangster’ gave his perspective on the debate of who would be better for Jon Jones. He proposed a plan to decide the next opponent for ‘Bones’ and his insights were pretty intriguing. He highlighted the stakes for both Pereira and Aspinall. He said, “Pereira nowhere in this said ‘if you give me Tom, I’ll beat Tom and work my way to Jones.’ He didn’t say that. But he did exactly what he just said. Which again for me, makes me more interested in Aspinall and Pereira.”
Sonnen mentioned how Aspinall shared a picture earlier where he was staring at ‘Poatan’ while the Brazilian walked to the Octagon at UFC 300. Sonnen said, “Now one thing that I am suggesting for you… it does not have resistance from either fighter. In fact, these guys already agreed to fight they even did their own face-off to headline UFC 300.”

The Brazilian star is incredibly ambitious, so he wants to go after a third championship at heavyweight even after being a 2 weight champion. To do this he will inadvertently have to battle ‘Bones’. The latter has also admitted that he would like to fight Pereira and the Brazilian knows he will be a lucrative fight for Jones. “I’m the champ. I want to fight the champ,” Pereira said on The Ariel Helwani Show through an interpreter. “Let’s make the fight with Jon Jones. That’s the fight I want for heavyweight.”

But on the other hand, Aspinall is also adamant about his chances of getting to fight the best. And now enters Dana White who gave a huge update on the Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones title unification bout.

What’s your perspective on:
Will Jon Jones choose the power of Pereira or the persistence of Aspinall for his next fight?

Aspinall versus Jones: He fights Aspinall or he fights him not?
Okay, so first things first, ‘Honey Badger’ already said he wants the unification bout. But Jones? He is not setting foot into the Octagon without a huge paycheck. This decision is looming over UFC until something concrete is on the horizon because everyone is waiting for this fight. So naturally, a reporter, that too from Conor McGregor’s MMA outlet, The Mac Life, questioned Dana White about the same.
Fortunately, the UFC CEO had an answer ready even if it was a cryptic one. “Yeah, there’s no situation. It’s the biggest fight we could make. And I know the fans like to mess with Jon and whatever, [but] Jon Jones isn’t afraid of anybody. And Jon Jones will fight anybody. It’s just a matter of getting the fight done now. That’s our job,” he said.

But now the main question is whether UFC is going to give Jones the “f**k you money” that he demanded. On the other hand, the boss did have another plan ready which could potentially take away the title from Jones making Aspinall the undisputed champion. “Listen, if we don’t get the fight done, we make another fight,” White voiced when asked if he would move on if Jones did not agree to fight Aspinall by the time it was June 2025.
The Brit also is on board with this plan because he said that he does not want to be in the situation that Michael Chandler was in. We all know how he waited patiently for Conor McGregor for almost two years and the fight never happened. After all, Aspinall just wants to become the undisputed UFC champion, it does not matter who it is against. So what do you think is going to happen to this Jones-Aspinall-Pereira trio?
